WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT ABOUT VERSION CONTROL omg i am losing my mindddddd why do editors have so much trouble with this concept??? if you send someone comments on a document and ask them to revise even though you know more comments on that version are coming, they're going to submit a revision and then you're going to give them comments on THE OLD VERSION THAT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE WHAT ABOUT THIS MAKES SENSE PEOPLE. i spent half an hour explaining this to someone yesterday and i thought she got it and then today she did something EVEN MORE NONSENSICAL than what she was planning to do originally! o glorb stay my hand i am about to do something unwise!!!

✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #12 | 06.09.24
Tumblr media
And it's time! 💜 Another month, another devlog, and this one comes with great news!
First of all, we FINALLY settled everything with our studio's bank account, which means we can start sending the necessary documentation to Steam so the demo can be approved. Beta testing has almost ended and all that's left is a bit more of anxious revisions and getting the paperwork together.
We will announce the demo release date very very soon; as soon as we can announce our Steam page! We are hoping that can be settled this upcoming week, but let's see what happens. As the finishing line approaches, we have less to show mainly because we are saving some juicy things for our Kickstarter Pre-Release, so bear with us for a minute! ; v ;
Also, let's be real—paperwork is boring. No one wants to read about me fist-fighting Steam or the Spanish government.
So let's jump into it! 💜
PD: I have a lot of asks left to reply to, so let me apologize for being a bit on the slower side! T_T
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This month, for mermay, we got a wonderful shrimp prince! 🧡
Seriously, though; he's supposed to be a lionfish, but the shrimp joke was too funny. Just look at this shrimpy beauty! 🦐
When it comes to the sprites, Raquel wants to add some touches to a few expressions, but she's now focusing on getting our merch art ready. We are so so excited to be able to show it! :')
Tumblr media
🎉🎉All the backgrounds have been finished!🎉🎉
Well, all the assets have been finished, should I say! Everything is animated, programmed, and ready to go.
Tumblr media
Programming wise, the beta testing process has been going great. Special thanks to Allie, our editor, and Lem (@crescencestudio) for offering their help in beta testing the demo! Also, A.J, Narjs, and Ela, our other beta testers that have given us invaluable feedback! 💜 I think we are almost finished; we are still waiting for one of our VAs to deliver their lines, and I want to give another round of testing to the mac version of the game.
The mobile version will most likely come later than the PC one, as it's stated in our masterpost! 💜 I'll start working on it as soon as the remaining voicelines are incorporated and the betatesting for the PC version is completely finished.
Tumblr media
This month we started to reveal our amazing cast! 💜 So far you've met Amon (Brian Vaughn), Envy (Aaron Moy), Xal (Francfil Pontañeles) and our Mysterious Seer (Callum Sanders). Everyone has been wonderful to work with, and we can't wait for you to meet them all in game!
We are also starting work on our teaser trailer; if we are lucky, we'll be able to work with a wonderful artist!
Tumblr media
We are sorry this devlog is a bit on the boring side—what's left for us is deal with the hell that is founding a studio and publishing a game. Taxes, build distributions, taxes, taxes, paperwork, reading lots of scary stuff...At the end of the day, we are just four little cryptids trying to stay afloat. I'm very proud of how far we've come, but now that things are getting very serious, I can't help but to shake in my boots a little! T^T
Our demo release date announcement is very, very close. We haven't said anything about it yet because we want to be certain everything is in order and as perfect as possible for the release. We know that's impossible (I mean, being first-timers, stuff is prone to happen), but we want to work as hard as we can to avoid oopsies.
And that's it, folks! We hope we can keep coming at you with good news, and we are very excited (and terrified) of what's to come. Thank you so so much for your support, for sending us asks, for your lovely comments, and for being interested in our game.
As always, please take care, stay hydrated and healthy, remember to eat and take breaks, and make sure to give yourself some love today! 💜

Hola chicaa i have a request!
You’re a waitress in pedri’s parents restaurant so you know them for a while and pedri is slowly fallin in love with you🙈
Changed this up in the tiniest bit
This was rushedly ended and it's not revised, sorry if there's any mistake or misspelled word😭
El Bar Tasca -Pedri González
Summary: You're a worker in El Bar Tasca Fernando and managed to catch the attention of your bosses youngest son, Pedro.
Tumblr media
"¡Y/N, hija!" Fernando, your six months boss said with a smile on as you waved at him through the screen of your phone.
"Señor Fernando" You smile "¿Cómo están? ¿Qué tal Barcelona?" (How are you? How's Barcelona?)
"Pues todo muy bien" He smiled "¿Qué tal ha dido el día de hoy?" (Everything's good. How was today?) You nod smiling.
"Pretty busy but nothing la señorita Candelaria and I couldn't handle" You show the old lady into the camera as she smiles and waves "We're actually closing up now"
"Hombre, pues eso está muy bien. Me alegra mucho" (Man, that's really good. I'm glad) He smiled.
"¿Qué tal el partido? He visto que ya han levantado el trofeo, Rosy me ha estado enviando fotos de ustedes sin parar" (How was the mathc? I saw they already lifted the throphy, Rosy has been sending me pics of you nonstop) You both laugh "Fer me ha enviado un video suyo como guardametas" (Even Fer sent me this video of yours as a goalkeeper)
"El muy pillo me ha agarrao' fuera de base" (The smart one has gotten me when I least expected it) You laughed.
You knew about his oldest son, Fernando and often when he came here, you talked to him and the two of you spent nice time, laughs and jokes thrown all over the place, you chatted when he's at his Barcelona house and keeping a nice friendship but you still haven't met his youngest son, Pedro. With him being the star of the family, he was always busy and couldn't travel back home the same amount of time his brother did.
And now, he had won LaLiga and Rosy and Fernando were desperate to go and be with him but they were hesitant to leave the restaurant since their manager left but you told them you could take care for a few days of the Bar and tried to relieve some of their pression out. Of course, they didn't wanted to at first, not liking to put more pression on your shoulders, they knew you had work and Uni work and combined were a lot but you brushed their comments and grabbed the Bar's keys softly from Rosy's hold.
"Go and see your boys" You said "The Bar will be on good hands"
And they knew it would be. Even with the relative short amount of time you have been working there, they had grown to love you like a daughter and you love them like your second parents and they knew you were such a responsable, smart and overall good girl. That's why after a long talk of how they were going to make it up for you and you trying to dismiss it, accepted and left.
That's how you came here on the facetime thing, they didn't wanted you to pressure yourself and often Rosy or Fernando checked up on you with a message or a call, this time Fernando was truly excited that he called to show you around the whole place since he knew you liked football.
"¡Y/N, cariño!" You heard Rosy before you could see her but once you did you smiled brightly at her
"Rosy, you're looking gorgeous! I'm glad you're having a good time over there!" You replied excited
"We are, Y/N/N" She smiles "Have you seen this? Is gorgeous!" You nod lightly
"Fernando was showing me around a bit, it does look very hermoso" Rosy was about to talk but you soon saw Fer coming in, you first saw a part of his hand, then his hair and his eyes to finally see his whole face in a smile
"¡Señorita!" (Young lady!) He said as you giggle
"¡Señorito!" (Young man!) You reply
"Estos viejitos me han dicho que te iban a matar sino tomabas el puesto para que ellos pudiesen venir" (These old people told me that they were going to kill you if you didn't say yes to take care of the bar so that they could come) He said as Rosy hits him in the back of his neck
"Ya, déjate de payasadas, Fernando González Lopez" Rosy says as you laugh lightly
"Sí, deja esos cuentos pa'otro tiempo, están celebrando el triunfo de tú hermano, debería dejarlos pa' que sigan con ello" You said (Yes, leave those jokes for later, you're celebrating your brother's triumph, I should leave you guys to it)
"Oh no" Fernando says frowning "We wanted to keep showing you around and maybe meeting Pedro? He's taking pictures somewhere but-" You cut them off shaking your head
"Don't worry about it. I have to help Candelaria to mop and close the shop" You smile "You come back here in two days, right?" Fernando nods as you nod back "See you in two days!"
"Maybe you see us as well soon, Y/N! We'll go there when Pedro gets his vacation time, we can meet up!" Fer said pushing his head into the screen once more as you laugh watching his nose and big eyes appear on half of the screen
"That we'll do, Nandito. Se me cuidan, por favor" (Take care of yourselves, please)
"Igualmente, hija" (Likewise, love) Rosy says as you smile but seconds before you cut the call you could heard another Canarian accent speak
"¡Pedro!"
You sighed happy, those two grown-ups were absolutely the best and you loved them deeply, it didn't hurted you a single bit trading some of sleep time to catch up, do inventary, count the money and clean the whole Bar for them, instead of being stuck into a book alone at home whilst you wait for your parents to come from their work.
So you stuck your phone in the back of your pocket and went behind where the dishes were to keep doing your work.
"¿Estamos bien, señora Candelaria?" (Are we good, miss Candelaria?)
"Que nada de señora, mijita" (None of miss, daughter) You smile "And yes, we are all good" You nod accepting her hand
"Bueno, let's go then"
...
Everything was chaos.
Fernando and Rosy had came back three days ago and today Fer and Pedro were coming, they both were excited and all over the place, making you do this and do that, then sent you to the other thing and then other. You tried as much as you could but you were getting tired of running all over the Bar.
"Calm down, Rosy" You said "Everything will be fine, they're just your sons, they know this place top to bottom and in it's best and worst conditions. This is their home and all they would want is to relax, so please, with all due respect I suggest you to stop overthinking and take it easy"
"And she's right" An unknown voice said as you turn around finally facing the last and youngest member of the González López family "Que papá me había dicho que estabas un poco fuera de lugar, estresada y demás" (Dad just told me you were a bit out of place, stressed and everything else)
"I was a bit stressed out, you haven't been here in a long time, I just wanted everything to be perfect"
"And it is, mamá" He smiled before looking at you "Pedro" He pushed his hand out as you took it and you both gave two kisses in your cheeks
"Y/N Y/L/N" His eyebrows shot up
"Finally I get to met the awesome Y/N" He said as you blush lightly
"Bueno que asombrosa, asombrosa no soy" (Well awesome, awesome I'm not) "...Pero igualmente es un placer" (But anyway, it's a placer)
"What do you mean not awesome?" He says shaking his head "Que me han dicho las mil y un cosas de tí" (People have told me the thousand and one things about you)
"Good ones, I hope so" He laughs
"All good. I even got told por ahí que haces tremendas croquetas, incluso puede que mejores que las de mi mamá, he venido a comprobar eso" You laughed (...got told somewhere that you make tremendous croquettes, maybe even better than my mother's, I have come to verify that)
"They really are" Rosy says smiling as you look at her
"Oh shush! You were the one who told me the recipe, they are basically yours!"
"She adds a little something, we don't know what it is but she made the recipe her own" You blush "Gotta go and see if Fernndo needs something from me" And with that she left you guys
"Are you up to do them, right now?" You smile nodding
"Sure" You smiled grabbing your hair in a low ponytail
"Can I help you?"
"Wash your hands, then"
You instantly got into it, you gotta admit you liked croquettes too, often giving Pedri some indications of cutting the dresses and both of you asking question about the other, getting to know yourselves, your voice talking with Pedro and laughing at his jokes was the only thing you could hear at the kitchen and the ocasional sound of an electrodomestic.
"Oh vaya! What do we have here?" Fer said coming up "Pedro cooking?" He made a face making you laugh and the youngest González gave him a look and throw him a carrot peel "How's it going?"
"He is better assistant than you, so..." You said as Fer, who's face falls as Pedro laughs "We're going great"
"I'm better than him, you're only saying that because I don't follow your instructions!"
"I'm the chef here so of course it annoys me when I say put the chicken in the grill and you say: 'But let's do it baked'" You imitate his voice making him laugh "No! No, no, no! I want the freaking chicken grilled, I prepared it for the grill and you just went ahead and putted it inside the oven"
Fer came up to you to hug you but you didn't hugged him back "That was the best chicken I have ever done and you messed it up, get off!" You both laughed
"At least I help you, you're choosing to stay with the one who burns a simple pan con queso"
"I'll be looking at this so it doesn't burn, let him alone!" Pedro was laughing at your interaction with his brother
"Gotta go and so do you, Pedro. Dad wants us to greet people"
Now, that statement made Pedro furrow his eyebrows.
He was having a good time with you, he wanted to stay with you, get to know the girl his parents and brother were basically head over heels for and guess what you had that drew them this bad at you.
He had already seen you in pics and heard your voice when you talked with Fer but never got to meet you properly and now, after two hours of meeting, he never wanted to leave the kitchen if that meant you were besides him.
Without knowing it, he was already realizing what it was that thing of yours that drew him to you and he was also finding himself wanting to be around you, see your pretty smile and hear your laugh.
You were la chica más bonita, he has ever seen.
He didn't wanted to leave. Not when you just got to know each other and were having a good time.
"Do I have to?" Pedro asked
"Yes"
"I don't want to, I wanna stay here and help Y/N" Silence took over the kitchen when you broke it
"These are almost done, I just gotta cut the salad and it'll be ready. It won't take more than a few minutes so, why don't you wait outside? You precisely won't eat here in the kitchen and you have your old neighbours wanting to see you" You gave a solution and after he thought of it, nodded as you smiled lightly clapping
"Venga, vamos. Personal autorizado en la cocina" (C'mon, authorized staff in this place)
"Somos hijos de los dueños" (we are children of the owners)
"No me importa, acaban de decir que se van así que personal autorizado, dije" (I don't care, you just said you were leaving, so only authorized staff, I said) They laughed as you ushered them out
"Is it just me or you have a crush on her?" Fer, asked in a low tone to his younger brother once they were away from the kitchen
"Hombre, I just met her"
"Are you telling me you don't find her attractive at least, the tiniest bit?"
"¡Fua!" Pedri shook his head with a smile on "¿Atractiva? Joder, hombre; es la niña más bonita que he visto en mi vida" (Attractive? Fuck, man; she's the prettiest girl I've ever seen in my life)
"Yeah, I knew you were gonna say that" Fer smiled "She indeed is pretty, but not only she has looks, she also has this intelligence that's out of this world and the humility that she possesses... She's awesome" Pedro smiled "She has this internship in la Universidad Europea" Pedro opened his eyes
"La de Santa Cruz de Tenerife?" Fer nodded "¡Joder!" (Fuck!)
"I repeat, she's awesome and perfect for you, hermanito"
"Ya, ya. I got the point" Both brothers laughed as they came across their dad along a few of their old neighbours "¡Señor Juan!" Pedri exclaimed meeting the old man and meanwhile he was glad to be back in his hometown and see his people, all he wanted to be was back in the kitchen with you.
...
"Hope you like it!" You placed several plates in front of them as they smiled, thanking you
"Y/N, ven a comer con nosotros!" (Come eat with us!) Fernando said as you slowly shook your head
"You're having a family lunch, sir" You said "Besides, gotta keep working"
"None of that, I'm your boss and we're all family here. Take a little break, young lady" You smiled
"Venga, Y/N" Rosy says "Que es más, el fin de semana vamos a la playa, estás más que invitada a venir" (Even better, we're going to the beach this weekend, you're more than invited to come with us)
"Yes, she will be coming" Pedro replied before you could "Tengo que seguir conociendo a la increíble Y/L/N" (I have to keep knowing more about the incredible Y/L/N)
"You guys will end up bored of me"
"Nunca" (Never) The four of them said as you smile blushing
...
"¡Hostias!" You all laughed at Fer who fell and incidentally, a wooden stake was embedded in his foot. He limped towards Rosy who pulled it out as he yelled a femenine "¡Ay!"
"Told you to be careful!" Rosy said as you kept on laughing
"Y/N, how you learned to cook?" Pedro said taking to his mouth another croquette that you made "They're delicious!" You smile
"I've always loved it since I was a little girl" You smiled "My older brother was sick and my mom was doing this soup and I love that annoying guy so much I didn't liked seeing him down" They laughed
"...so I wanted to help and I started stirring and chopping some things with her help, of course. I didn't played a single thing but she said that I did and once my brother ate it, he started feeling better and I guess-" you lift your shoulders "I liked the feeling of him being healthy and happy for something I "helped" doing, I started to help her more and more, they played it off like I used to do everything until I did learned"
"I started cooking for real, I keep on loving it and I guess I combined my mom's, my grandma's cooking and I added to the mix my own stuffs, like throwing a bit of what seemed it could go good with to whatever I was doing" they laughed "I fell for this world"
"That's nice" You smile at Pedro nodding
"And you do amazing" Fernando said as you blush
"And of course, I'm mixing Rosy's and Candelaria's techniques and recipes into the mix as well" You laugh
"Oye, debes de darme la receta de ese pescado que haces" (You need to give me the recipe of the fish dish you do) Fer says "Little man here has this diet-that he's currently breaking at the moment with the amount of croquettes he has consumed" You laugh and Pedro lifts his shoulders
"¡Están buenísimas, hombre!" (They're so good, man!)
"Stop doing that, you will not get any muscles from it!"
"Yes, please, stop. I don't want to be the culprit of that happening" You said slowly taking the plate out of his hold
"Hey, hey, hey!" Pedro chanted going forward and grabbing three croquettes more "I will lose these" He says as you laugh
"Anyways" Fer keeps talking "He has to eat almost everyday fish and I keep thinking of the tastes it had and everything but I can't do it, it doesn't come nicely as yours... I need to know it!" You smile nodding
"Text me later and I will send it to you" You said grabbing a croquette "Ingredients and preparation"
"Ok, I'll try doing it and I'll text you how it goes"
"Or we can met up and do it?" Pedro proposed
"That also sounds good, that way I can see if you're doing something wrong" You smiled at Fer
"I already have this week busy with a few friends"
"I can go" Pedro said
"You don't know how to cook"
"Pero puedo aprender" (But I can learn) Fer was about to talk but Pedro interrupted him "It's done!" He turned to look at you "When are you free?"
"Sunday after 2pm and Wednesday"
"I'll be there on Sunday"
"Where will you be at if we haven't said anything from a place?" You smirked
"Well, we can meet up here in the beach and then we'll go anywhere for you to teach me how to do that fish dish" You nod "And then, we can go out if you'd like" You raised your eyebrows
"Go out?"
"Yes, you and I, go out" You duck your lips thinking. You only have four days knowing this guy but he wasn't joking around, subtly flirting with you any chance he gets.
And you won't lie and say you didn't find him attractive at all because, he was; in fact, you were flirting back most of the times.
"But that sounds like a date"
"It can be if you want to" You blush and smile widely, his parents were here and listening to the whole thing.
This boy.
"Oye, que no sé si sea buena idea salir con el hijo de tus jefes" (Hey, I don't think it's a good idea going out with your bosses son)
"Oh, que no te preocupéis por nosotros dos" (Oh, don't you worry about us two) Fernando spoke "We'll be more than happy if you date our son"
"Que ya eres parte de la familia, Y/N" Rosy says smiling
"¿Ves?" (See?) Fer jokes as you all laugh
"¿Y?" (And?) Pedro asks with a smile on as you slowly nod
"Pues... al parecer tendremos una cita" (Well, it seems like we'll have a date) You smiled back at him
"Y aprovechamos el miércoles para la segunda también" (and we take advantage of Wednesday for the second one too) You smirked
"Pero, ¿Y a ti quién te dijo que tendremos una segunda cita?" (But, who told you we'll have a second date?) He smirked winking at you
"Bonita, perderás la cuenta de las tantas citas tendremos en el futuro. You'll see" (Pretty girl, you'll lose count of the many dates we'll have in the future)

If it is okay to ask a second time: 🤲, 🎉 and 🧠 for the fanfic game? (if not pls just ignore this ask ;) )
Oh that's totally fine! (Barely anyone is sending anything anyway.)
--
🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?
If it gets a decent amount of attention, I guess. Lots of views, comments, and/or bookmarks. (Warmth and Safety once got recommended twice in the same Twitter thread, so I'd definitely consider that a success lol.)
--
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.
You didn't give me a character, so I'll just pick the Bros lol. I love the really common idea that Mario protected Luigi from bullies growing up. (The movie even seems to support this!)
--
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
Sure! I considered posting something from the eel scene rewrite (which I can still do if someone asks!). But instead, here's a snippet from the post-movie fic where Luigi and Peach bond over cake and trauma.
Please remember that this is part of an unfinished draft, and will get revisions when/if it's finished.
(For a bit of context: Peach has baked before, but it's been a long time since then, and she's very rusty.)
--
The timer dinged, shaking her out of her thoughts. She nearly forgot to use potholders when taking the cake out of the oven. Fortunately, she remembered before she could burn herself.
After the cake had a chance to cool, she tried a bite of it. It was crumbly, and fell apart at her touch. She frowned. What had she done wrong?
"Hey."
She whipped around, karate hands at the ready.
Luigi put his hands up. "Sorry, sorry! Didn't mean to startle you."
Peach relaxed. "It's fine." She smiled. "What brings you here? Where's Mario?"
"Mario's at his therapy appointment, so I'm by myself today." Luigi scratched his hand. "I'm…bored, I guess."
Peach figured it was more than that. She had noticed how the two were almost never apart. Apparently it had been this way since they were young, but they had become especially clingy after their adventure. Luigi was probably feeling anxious by himself. She could use the company anyway.
"I tried baking a cake today. It came out a bit…bad."
Luigi inspected it. "Hmmm…yeah, it looks a bit dry."
"A bit" was quite the understatement.
He stroked his mustache. "You might've used too much flour, or too little butter and eggs."
"Oh, was that the problem?" Peach smiled, an idea coming to her. "I have enough ingredients left to try again. Maybe you could help me this time?"
Luigi's face lit up. "Sure!"
Peach did genuinely want his advice, but that wasn't the main reason for doing this. She knew Luigi needed a distraction right now, and this seemed like the best way to do it.
The two set to work on the cake (after scraping the remains of the other one into the garbage). Luigi showed her how to properly measure the ingredients, and gave her other advice every now and then. Before long, they had another cake in the oven.
"Thanks for the help," said Peach. "Where'd you learn all of this?"
"My Ma. I've helped her out in the kitchen lots of times. I've always paid close attention to what she does. I want to be able to cook for me and Mario when we someday get our own place."
Peach smiled. She thought it was sweet how the brothers intended to stay together, even as adults. While she'd been raised alongside other children, she'd never had any siblings of her own. She wondered what it was like to have a bond like Mario and Luigi's. To have someone that had been by your side since birth, who understood you like nobody else. She was almost jealous of what they had.
"Thanks for letting me hang out," said Luigi.
“Of course. You're welcome here any time.”
The timer dinged.
Luigi grabbed the pot holders. "I'll get it!"
He opened the oven. His cheery face suddenly changed to one of terror. He screamed and scrambled backwards, bumping into the counter.

THIS.
Especially in light of the DELUGE of negative reactions AMC got for Ep5. That was a HUGE risk AMC took that we're still feeling the aftershocks from today, even after TONS of interviews, metas, comments, etc.
Even if AMC walks it back, none of us will know that's what was always planned, or was done out of necessity to keep the ratings and viewership from tanking.
Anne Rice retconned entire BOOKS when she caught flack from the fandom or didn't like where the story was going. So AMC watering down or even revising the SV and DV in Ep5 wouldn't surprise me at all.
However, it would beg the question was it worth it? Look how many people stopped watching the show after Ep5 entirely. They're not getting those people back, regardless, so who's this really benefitting? They added POC MCs to make the show more inclusive for POC audiences. Why TF would they piss off that demographic by making the POCs out like people whose every word needs to be verified by the same white man they've been so busy making look like their oppessor?
Ok, the fight was one big ole elaborate hoax, and we're about to get GATCHA'd like a mofo once Lestat comes in and sets the record straight, cuz lord knows those darkies are a bunch of psychos who can't be trusted. Lestat didn't beat the hell out of Louis so bad he went blind in one eye; and dragged him out of the courtyard by his effing JAW so bad Louis could barely speak when he yelled "Let go of me!"; and dropped Louis a million miles from the frikkin air so Claudia had to find frikkin goats for Louis to chase around the house to learn to effing WALK again. Fine. Weird flex, Rolin, but ok.
But tbh, I'll still enjoy IWTV regardless of them retconning the fight/drop scene, cuz contrary to popular opinion:
Ep5 was not the only instance of Lestat being an awful abusive spouse & father.
What will these petty fans REALLY be proving/winning by AMC altering ONE albeit major fight, when Loustat's relationship had been in shambles for YEARS prior and YEARS afterwards?
Did Lestat get kicked out of their house for 6 whole years for NOTHING?
Did the mantelpiece get busted and Lestat's coffin get smashed and Louis' coffin get dented by the raccoons running wild in the house or what? (I know they're vicious little beasties, but SHEESH!)
Did Lestat send countless mea culpas admitting to what happened "that night" being entirely his fault or nah?
Did "I am cursed with my father's temper" "clean up the mess and come to coffin!" "blame the teacher not the student!" Lestat verbally abuse Louis and demean Louis' status in their household by treating him like the housewife or nah?
Did Lestat disrespect Louis' intelligence by SNEAKING off with Antoinette (like a CHEATER does, not someone in a mutual open relationship) and literally look GUILTY/CAUGHT when Claudia said she'd been following him or nah?
Did Lestat chokeslam Claudia MULTIPLE times or nah?
Did Lestat physically force Claudia to watch "the only love she'll ever know" get boiled down to "soup" and then make fun of her for it or nah?
Did Lestat take Louis for granted by demanding sex from him even in the midst of his open grief/depression; more worried about his "considerable considerables" being squandered than where TF their missing daughter was for almost a decade or nah?
Did Lestat chase Claudia down on that train like a cracker hunting a runaway slave so she wouldn't make it across that railroad, Harriet Tubman style, or nah?
Did Lestat have a complete violent outburst trashing the chess set over losing a freaking GAME and going into hysterics verbally abusing both Claudia AND Louis--not just to Antoinette behind their backs as he did in their seedy hotel room, but to his family's FACES?
Did Lestat literally LIE to Claudia and Louis about killing Antoinette or nah? (Was her finger healed/replaced in S7 when we see her hands during the final showdown, or was that an oversight by the production team?)
Did Lestat literally tell Louis that they'd be better off with Claudia dead and her killer (Antoinette) brought in to replace her or nah?
Ep5 constantly gets treated as the end all be all to Lestat's reputation and his fans being vindicated that Louis & Claudia & Armand completely fabricated everything bad about him--but we can believe them when they say Lestat had a way about him, and show him as funny or charming or sweet or loving!
But the red flags about Lestat were all over S1, not just in one episode. So like, I just wanna know where the buck stops for LeStans with "toxic abuse."
A fundamental thing that people don’t realize is that if Louis is exposed as a liar then that’s not a fucking own. It’s literally just bad and clumsy writing to set up a black character being abused by their white partner with slave symbolism and shit all thrown into the narrative only for it to be back tracked but people in this fandom who have goldfish dick for brains think that’s a good thing because it validates their theory when the theory itself is monkey water. unprompted ask / always accepting
@badheart said: "Mine," she huffed. "My job just allows me to work from everywhere I want," she reminded him, just needs her drawing tablet. Though he was not incorrect that it was expensive and still living with her family helped quite a bit. A few sacrifices certainly have to be done for her independence. "Oh? Will you be my first customer then? I'll even do it for free, if you ask nicely," she offered before finally trying to free her arm. "You sure could be nicer to me," she pouted. There was no one else, which was one of the main reasons, she still bothered with his company. Seeking him more out than she would like to admit, and she sure worried at times, that she was testing his tolerance too much.  There was also Rei, but she was unable to give Fang the kind of approval she sought out. "I'll be nice..." she mumbled.
“you will do it for free?” idachi questioned with an incredulous tone in his voice, smirking a bit. “how financially responsible of you.” he mocked, as it nullified her work if she was willing to do it without any money in exchange. he let go, but that was just because he was quite busy—his focus being more so on some documents that he had to revise before sending them to rei for translation. he gave fang a side glance, ignoring the way that she’d pout. maybe it would have been somewhat cute, had she kept her longer hair & more revealing clothing, but right now, she looked like a child. a small boy just pestering him at work. it made him wonder why she even bothered to show up. “your father didn’t say anything about paying me a visit.” he commented, as if putting into question the motive behind her apparition.
Tumblr media
still, he ended up leaning back with the support of his chair reclining as he did so, making himself comfortable as he stared at her sorry form. wasn’t she rei’s friend? & yet, she was here, seeking for him instead. it made him snort. “your friend is off today. are you here because she didn’t want to hang out with you?”

↞ back to haikyu!! masterlist
Tumblr media
atsumu miya
Atsumu knew he had fangirls; knew he had a lengthy line of girls who would do anything to fuck him. Through them all the only person he would ever see was you. You and your bright eyes, your soft y/e/c eyes looking past the fans as you saw him.
You had walked towards the gym after studying for you and Atsumu to walk home. You loved walking home with him, the way his fingers wrapped around your own, the way he brought your knuckles to his mouth. He adored you and you adored him.
The fangirls screeching with baked goods that Atsumu wouldn’t take, you tried to barge through them, getting elbowed, why was it so hard to see your boyfriend?
Osamu had been at the door as he noticed you, “Y/n.” You smile at him as he takes your sleeve dragging you through.
“Where did all the fangirls come from?” You mutter as you follow him inside.
“It’s summer and you know what happens then.”
“What sweat and shirtless men.” He laughs at your comment as you try to find Atsumu.
“Agh Osamu, we need to do some sets before we can leave.” Kita speaks before noticing you. “Is this your girlfriend, nice to meet you.”
He gives a smile as you look at the twin, both looking at disgust at the thought of being in a relationship together. Sure, he may look like your boyfriend, but his qualities were more brother like whilst his brothers were more boyfriend type.
“Ugh...” You were interrupted as you felt arms wrap around your waist.
“What’s my princess doing surrounded by all these boys?” Atsumu’s lips brushed against your ear as you shivered at his touch.
“Osamu helped me past the fangirls.” You said as you turned to meet his eyes, his hands moving to your waist to being you closer.
“They weren’t any trouble.” You shook your head as he leans down to meet your lips.
His soft lips on your own feeling as you both move together. “Oi you two we still have some sets to do.” Atsumu huffs at his brother as he leaves you.
“Wait on the benches princess.” You nod as you walk away.
Kita looks between the twins before shaking his head, “someone’s actually dating you.”
He walks away as Atsumu scowls, he watches you sit down making sure nobody disturbed you.
He starts the set effortlessly before he hears you speak, “You’re such a pretty setter.” You had stood up cheering him as he did one of his great sets to Osamu who spiked it. He blushes at you he knew how much he loved your eyes on all of him, his body, his form even his hands. He wanted you to know that he was all yours.
Tumblr media
eita semi
“Semi.” You hum his name out to the empty gym, he was with Ushijima and Tendo as they were practicing spikes and blocks.
You smiled at three boys as you walked onto the court, “do you boys never get sleep?” You laugh as you walk up to Semi.
“I get the daily amount needed to survive.” Ushijima spoke stoically he had the ball in his hands rotating. You raised your eyebrow at the boy as Tendo started to sing about sleep, his fingers doing little dances.
“Come on guys it’s like 9, don’t you have beds to get too.” You mutter as you lean against Semi, his arm wrapping around your waist.
“One more minute.” Semi pleads his eyes softly looking at you, “and I’ll even teach you how to set a ball.”
Ushijima gives a confused look as you look at the boy, “Fine by me.” Is all he mutters.
You drop your bag only wearing your skirt and thigh highs with your button up. Semis hands wrap around you showing you the technique of setting, how far your hands should be raised, the whole lot.
Before you knew it Ushijima passed the ball to you ready to spike, you push the ball from your hands upwards making it go towards Ushijima as he spikes it down, Tendo just missing it.
“That was amazing, you might even end up taking your boyfriends spot.” Tendo joked out as your waiting for praise from your boyfriend.
“You did amazing baby.” Semi smiles kissing the top of your head. “Give us another five minutes and then we’ll leave.”
You nod as you move to the benches watching them practice, you admired all of Semi’s features, the way his hands moved to set the ball, the way he scrunched his noise. You loved it all you loved everything about him.
“You’re such a pretty setter.” You say aloud, the boys looking at you, Semi goes red as you gawk at him. He finally walks up to you kissing you softly, his hands wrapping around your waist to bring you forward. He would never admit it but you calling him pretty made him feel some type of way.
Tumblr media
keiji akaashi
Fukurodani’s practice game with Nekoma was closing to an end, you had stayed late in the library to revise for an upcoming exam and had sadly missed the game. Knowing Akaashi would be upset, you left a little early to catch the last part of the game. Hopefully.
You walked through the gym doors, the points at a mere 2-point lead by Fukurodani, Nekoma had been putting up a fight, you examine the game, going towards the two managers who you were friends with.
“How longs this been going on then?” You ask Yukie as she gives a look of dread.
“Too long Y/N.”
“Has Bokuto gone into emo mode?” You question as Kaori speaks this time.
“Gladly no.” You loved the frosted tip owl like a brother and a happy Bokuto meant a happy Akaashi, you watched as the game was drawing to a close, the ball being sent to Akaashi as he effortlessly set it to Bokuto who spiked it down winning the set.
You admired all of Akaashi’s features, the way his blue eyes analysed the area, brightening up once he saw you. He rand his hands through his already messy black hair, Bokuto screaming at Akaashi, “Akaashi you saw that.” He bounced about as Akaashi quickly praised him before walking up to you.
“You’re such a pretty setter.” You hum at the tall boy; he gazes down at you smiling at the comment.
“You’re my pretty girl.” He kisses your temple before quickly going back to thank Nekoma.
“I’ll wait outside for you.” He had passed you gesturing five minutes as you walked outside. The chilly air hitting your exposed thighs as your socks only went below your knees. The uniform not helping as you hadn’t worn your blazer due to the immense heat in the morning.
“What do we have here? A cold owl.” You could recognise that voice from anywhere.
You turn around to be met with the one and only Nekomas captain. “One day Kuroo I’d wish you weren’t an ass.”
“Ooo my bad, princess.”
You glare at the tall boy, he was mocking you, knowing already of yours and Akaashi’s relationship. “Don’t call me that you dickhead.”
“Are you pissing off my girlfriend?” Akaashi walked towards you unamused at the situation.
He handed you a hoodie as you quickly wore it, not wanting to freeze your tits off.
“Me never.” Kuroo laughs as you roll your eyes.
“Come on Y/n, pain in the ass Kuroo san must be getting tired from all the loosing he did today.” You smirk at the uncharacteristic comment of Akaashi but nevertheless take his hand.
“You’re so cute.” You sing out as he grabs you closer to his body, putting a hand to your jaw as he kisses you softly, his calm demeanour making you melt underneath his touch.
“You’re cuter Y/n.” You blush as you remain in each other’s arms.
“AWWW MY FAVOURITE COUPLE.” Bokuto screams as he runs next to you.
“Bokuto san.” Both you and Akaashi scold in unison at his shouting. He gives a signature smirk as he beings to praise both his and Akaashi’s skills. You listen intently as you stare up at Akaashi his warm eyes filling you with love and comfort.
Tumblr media
keishin ukai
Keishin and you had dinner plans and knowing him you knew he would not be ready or ever arrive early to get ready. Being the best girlfriend ever you went to go collect him, you had already closed the shop up for the night, occasionally helping out when you had free time mostly to spend time with Keishin though.
You had always wanted to meet the kids he coached but he had always been a wary because he knew the kids and knew exactly how they acted in front of pretty women. Especially Nishinoya and Tanaka.
You walked up the steps leading to the volleyball gym, well that’s what you assumed it was. Knocking on the door as you saw the team taking a break, a man comes up to you with black hair and glasses as you smile at him.
“Hi, how can I help you?” He speaks cheerily before you recognise him as the man who had tormented Keishin for a couple of months back at the shop.
“Who’s she?” You hear one of them mutter, you were dressed up to be a teacher and you couldn’t have come for any of them. Even with the blue dress that clinged to you, you looked gorgeous and the whole boys team knew it.
“Oh, hi, I’m Y/n I looking for Keishin.” He gives a confused look inviting you in from the freezing air.
“You know our coach.” A loud orange hair boy jumps up in front of you as you look between both males and the rest of the team. This had shocked the team how did their coach know you.
You nod speaking, “Yeah he’s my boyfriend.” Deadpanned as the team goes silent, Takeda goes red at the fact that Keishin had mentioned you but never introduced you to them all.
Two boys instantly jolted in front of you as you jumped back, one with a buzz cut and another with a brown strip of her between his black hair. “Tanaka, Noya don’t frighten the woman.” A guy with grey hair spoke calmly to the boys.
“I have hope, if coach was able to get her than there is hope for us all.” Noya screams at the team as you fiddle with your clutch that kept your phone. You regretted not calling before you had arrived.
“Hope for what?” Keishin had come through the doors carrying his car keys. “Y/n what are you doing here?” He looked even more confused before seeing the dress and how amazing you looked
“You forget didn’t you.” You walk towards him as you mutter at looking up at him.
“Dinner, fuck, let me wrap practice up, I need to…” You bring your finger to his lips.
“I know you need to get changed we have an hour before the reservation.” You spoke confidently, the team gawking at how you shut their couch up so easily.
“Guess you better meet the team before we leave.” You laugh as he grabs your hand making you stand in front of the boys. “Introduce yourselves make it quick.”
One by one they all introduce themselves even stating their position as you remembered what Keishin had taught you about volleyball. “Wow you’re both setters, I love setters.” You smile at both Kageyama and Sugawara as you turn back at Keishin.
“You’re such a pretty setter.” You coo to your boyfriend teasingly.
The team laughs at Keishins bright red face, “Yeah, yeah.” He mutters grabbing your waist feeling your skin through the thin dress material. “I’m gonna wrap practice up early, you are all free to stay longer, but I’ll make practice a lot longer tomorrow.” The boys groan at the lack of energy knowing that they did love Volleyball enough to spend all hours of the day doing it.
“Before you leave, how did you get her?” Nishinoya said with no filter.
“The imbecil actually asked that.” The tall blonde Tsukishima snickered as you laughed.
You turned to face the dyed blonde man, “He begged.” He goes wide eyed as he pokes your side.
“You really be telling people that’s how I got you.” He pulls at his hair taking the headband out of his hair as you smirk.
“He begged on his knees.” You rephrase as the boys laugh at how embarrassed their coach was getting.
“Okay this practice is done now.” He grabs your hand as he pulls you outside, “Princess I distinctly remember you were the only one of your knees.”
You slap him playfully as you look at him, “you perve.” You give a quick kiss as you retract he grabs your throat making you stay close to his mouth as he continues the kiss. His rough hands on your body.
He retracts the mere inches between both your mouths still visible, “as soon as I saw you in that dress, how could I ever resist you?” You chuckle your head going back as his hand was still wrapped around your neck, his thumb brushing against your lips. “A quickie in my car.”
“You pervert.” You could almost feel his smirk as he laughed at your reaction. He adored everything about you as you go back for another kiss. He loved you and you couldn’t lie and say you didn’t love him back.
Tumblr media
kenma kozume
You had been showing the new kid around making sure he knew where his classes were, you were going to show him the volleyball club so you could end the day meeting Kenma. He seemed nice enough but had already asked for number which you rejected as soon as you realised what he wanted.
“Finally, this is the gym, the Volleyball boys team are practicing, and I have to meet my boyfriend but if you have any questions.
“Isn’t volleyball for girls.” You gave a sign as you looked at him.
“Some of my friends are the best volleyball players in Tokyo, so no its not just a girls sport.” He gave a look as he peeked through the doors.
“There’s a girl right there though.” You grew confused as Nekoma had no manager and people wouldn’t stay long enough. He had been pointing to Kenma, you scowled at his ideocracy.
“He’s not a girl, he is the setter and he’s fucking amazing at it.” You shout urning the glances from the team as they heard you shouting. “If you started thinking with your upstairs brain maybe you’d realise that people don’t have to conventionally look like boys to be boys, they are whatever they want to identify as.”
He was scared and you had started to get pissed, the team walked up to you as Kuroo looked at you, “he giving you a problem Y/n.”
“I handled it Kuroo.”
“This the boyfriend.” The new kid asked as your blood boiled.
Kuroo was confused, he grabbed Kenma by the hood as he made him stand in front of you. “Kitten is everything okay?” All the anger that filled you had disappeared as soon as you saw him, your love, your everything.
“This is your boyfriend.” Your face grew angry again.
“Cover me.” Is all you said to Kuroo and the rest of the team, Kenma knew what was about to happen as he stopped the game he was playing to watch. “You want to say that again.”
Before you let him speak, your fist went to his face, pushing him back even if you didn’t condone violence, it was sometimes necessary. Kenma smiled as he saw his girl fighting for him. “That’s enough kitten.” He spoke softly as you stopped beating the crap out of the boy.
You don’t say anything as you leave, he wasn’t injured just a few scratches, Kenma grabbed your hand holding it, even if you were shorter than him you would always fight for him. He brought your bruised knuckles to his mouth. Kissing it better as if all the love and care he had was going to heal your wounds. You giggle at his touch as you watch the rest of the game feeling his eyes fixated on the ball.
Before you knew it the practice had finished and you and Kenma held hands walking to the train, the new kid disappearing. He smiled listening inattentively at your day. “You know.” You pause speaking as you notice him watching, “you’re such a pretty setter.”
He hides his face with his hair not wanting to feel embarrassed you knew he loved it as he squeezed your hand softly, you smiled leaning your head against his shoulder, feeling everything, you needed in him.
Tumblr media
koshi sugawara
You hadn’t intended to come watch the practice, but Suga had insisted you come so he could walk home with you. You adored him and even though you knew the basics of Volleyball it was still a confusing game.
You ended up coming right on time with Kageyama swapped out with Suga. He noticed you as he gave a bright smile, you smiled back going to Kiyoko and Yachi as they greeted you with cheery HI’s.
The game started again, Suga serving as he started getting passed the ball, you understood the terminology and what was going on, it was when they would do their insane moves that were unexplainable. He set the ball effortlessly as Asahi spiked it right past the blockers.
You cheered always being Suga’s biggest fan, as they continued on with the game you watched smiling at the love you had for him. The devotion you had to this boy who brought happiness to your life. You knew he would bring about comfort in a room and right now all you could feel was admiration at his perfect sets, his perfect passes, his perfect serves. He was perfect to you and he deserved the world.
They had started doing something you didn’t know much about, Noya coming from the frontline as he jumped up setting as well. Suga had told you about this attack, a synchronised attack that would only work if everybody was perfect. You didn’t really read up on it as much as you did other attacks but seeing it in action as Suga spiked the ball passing the blockers you realised just how much satisfaction it brought your boyfriend.
“Suga that was amazing.” You shout as he smiles, the practice game having been won as he scored the last point.
He walked up to you, opening your arms for a big hug. You loved his hugs he always smelt of fresh towels and vanilla a combination expected from the grey-haired boy. “You’re such a pretty setter.”
He smirks as he remains around you, his arms encasing you as he was so in love with you. You were his everything and he wanted to show you the world.
“Can you two stop making us want to puke?” Daichi laughs out as you stick your tongue out at him.
You turn back to Suga his eyes remaining glued to you, “just because nobody loves you Daichi.” Suga spoke still fixated on you, “I love you.” He whispers as you reply back the same love and adoration for him. He kisses you quickly before coach shouted at him.
Even with the smallest quickest kiss it still brought happiness to you as you felt your heart beat through your uniform, your body missing his touch, even your thighs encased in tights had hairs risen just at the pining of love you had for this boy. He was going to ruin you and you were going to gladly let him.
Tumblr media
tobio kageyama
Kageyama had been none stop practicing for the past week, even with nationals months away he was still concentrated on improving. You loved that about him, loved his dedication but his lack of knowing when to take breaks is what worried you the most.
You walked through the double doors, it was another late night of studying for you and playing volleyball for Kageyama, your lack of communication annoying you. You saw as he set the ball perfectly, Hinata spiking it to where the water bottles were. You smiled as you continued to watch not drawing any attention to yourself, he kept setting perfectly for the orange haired boy.
As soon as the last ball had been set, he looked at the door seeing your cold frame watching intently. You smiled giving a small wave as he gestured for you.
“Hey Y/n, what are you doing here?” You play with your fingers being shorter than the boy making you have to look up to him.
“I thought we could walk home.” He knew you both hadn’t spent that much time together since the team had won Nationals.
He hesitated a response, but you spoke before he could, “you’re such a pretty setter.” You were embarrassed at what you said his face going a bright red.
“Kageyama you look like a rotten tomato” Hinata said as he walked past, you giggle at the comment as he looks at you again, the reddening calming down.
“We should walk home together; I’ll go grab my stuff.” You smile as he starts to walk off before pausing in his tracks, “thank you Y/n.” He was never this outwardly affectionate but in the enclose where only you could hear you felt love.
“It’s all true you’re a…” He interrupts you quickly.
“No, thank you for that but also thank you for staying by my side, I love Volleyball and I love you, I’m not very good as balance, but you realise how important Volleyball is to me, so thank you for always being there.” You smile looking down.
“I’ll always be there for you.” He smiles as he leaves to grab his stuff.
He arrives as quick as he left, the small action of skimming his fingertips beside your own, made you grab his hand, he looked down smiling as you leaned in closer to hid frame. He let your other arm go around his arm, bringing warmth to you.
“You know, every time I set, I set for you.” He smirks as you have love in your eyes.
“R…really.” You choke out.
He stops you, putting his hands to your face, “yeah and I really do love you Y/n”
“I love you too Tobio.” You close the gap, his hands guiding the kiss as in the privateness of the empty street allowing Tobio to express himself in which words could never do. You had to hand it to the boy, he would always be better at physically showing his love than emotionally. But even then it made you love him even more, it made Tobio Kageyama, Tobio Kageyama.
Tumblr media
toru oikawa
Oikawa had fans, a lot of fans. You hated to admit you were jealous of how they’d come up to him after games, how they’d touch his arm. It was always a race to get to him first and even him always ignoring them as soon as you came. You still hated them.
You knew how much Oikawa had been practicing lately so you made him some milk bread and would wait for him to finish practice so you both could walk home. You walked towards the double doors, his fans crowding around as they watched intently.
You sign as you push past them, hearing scowls, someone even elbowing you as you glared at the girl, just as you reached the entrance about to walk in. Someone on the team came running up to you, he looked new and have the ugliest hair ever.
“Sorry you can’t come in when practice is on, are you one of Oikawa’s fans?” You were about to answer him as he saw the food in your hands. “Fucking hell you fangirls are obsessed with him, y’know he won’t eat it.”
You raised an eyebrow at the first year, “Yeah well I’m not a fan so move it.”
You try to barge past him, but his arm was out, he glared as you glared back. Almost a competition of seeing who would retain eye contact. “Then what are you doing here?”
“I’m here to see my boyfriend.” He raised an eyebrow as he chuckled.
“You must be crazy if you think Oikawa’s your boyfriend.” You grew even more frustrated at the new kid.
“I’m going to kill you if you don’t move.” He remained standing in front of you.
The commotion that had been occurring had made Iwaizumi come over, “Leave Y/n alone Kindaichi.” You finally found out his name.
“But…”
“Thank you Iwa-chan.”
“Who the fuck is Y/n.” Kindaichi mutters as you continue to glare at the boy.
You walked towards Oikawa who was sitting on the bench, his knee was getting better, but he needed some breaks occasionally. “You okay, baby.”
He broke out from his trance as a soft smile appeared on his lips, “What are you doing here princess.”
He gestured for you to come closer to him, you complied as he brought his arms around your waist, hugging you, his head resting on your stomach. “I brought you some milk bread, you didn’t eat enough this morning.”
He smiles as he takes the bread, he puts it to the side before hugging you again. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” He lets go looking up at you, “now go show me those amazing sets of yours.”
He nods standing up becoming a lot taller than you now, grabbing a slice of bread he stuffs it in his mouth as he goes into a game. “Shittykawa don’t stuff your face.” Iwaizumi shouts as Oikawa looks at him hurt.
“My baby made me bread.” He coos as you laugh sitting on the bench.
The game occurred, Oikawa setting perfectly as Iwaizumi spiked it past the blockers especially the annoying turnip head. You watched Oikawa intensively occasionally glaring at Kindaichi as he glared back. The game ended quickly as Oikawa’s serves allowed for many points to arise.
He came up to you, smiling happily waiting for some praise, “you’re such a pretty setter.” He grabbed your waist pulling you towards him as he hugged you tightly.
“You’re too nice to me.” You laugh as your hands played with his hair, it brought comfort to the tall boy. He gave a genuine smile as he looked down at you.
He brought his face closer to yours as he kissed you softly, his mouth gaining momentum as it became heated. His hands bringing you closer to his waist as you could feel his skin on your own. Before it could go anywhere further, you felt Oikawa’s head push against you, he let go off you his hand to his head as you saw the stray volleyball roll away.
“Iwa-chan don’t be so mean.”
“Lazykawa we still have practice, stop eating Y/n’s face off.” He huffed at the boy, you watched as Oikawa left to go pout to Iwaizumi for being mean. The tall boy would be the death of you, but even then you still loved him.

The Number One Rule. Chapter 26.
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N has always been seen as “Steve’s rambunctious sister.” However, she grew up, graduated, and moved to London to study abroad for 4 years and get her bachelor's degree. The girl that returns looks nothing like the teenager that left, but don’t worry the attitude is still there and stronger than ever. What’s to come of the two grown adults that used to push each other's buttons, but now have a lot more in common than they’ve ever realized.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Y/N Rogers (Steve’s little sister)
Word Count: 3800+
A/N: Ladies and Gentlemen. This is the last chapter. I know I say it almost every time, but I truly think this is one of my personal favorite top stories. At LEAST in the top 3. Now it is time for me to go through and read it all the way through and revise where I can. I’m so glad you all loved it as much as me and I am happy to say, I am already working on a new series!! And yes, it is a Bucky x Reader. I just can’t seem to stray from them lately. His character is stuck on my brain and I’m not mad. Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you once again for all your love and support with this one! I loved each and every single comment and thought thrown my way:) Also, BONUS, I will probably write a one-shot explaining the Bumble Bee nickname, since I was never able to work it into this... If not that, maybe a prologue... I don’t know we shall see;) With that being said, enjoy this ending and let me know how your heart feels after!!
Chapter Twenty-Six:
A whole year had passed. Today marked the 1 year of Y/N and Bucky finally coming together after all this time of being friends and making it official as two people who loved each other deeply.
To give you a quick update in the time passed…
Steve and Peggy went on a first date after she came back for a second time and made her move to New York permanent. He had been sweating buckets while getting ready and Y/N and Bucky coached him from the couch as he came in and out of his room trying on multiple outfits for the night.
Y/N had suggested taking her to some different places around Manhattan, kind of like the scavengers hunt Bucky did for their first date. But instead of knowing the different places, Peggy really hadn’t known the city at all, so it was more so a tour guide kind of date.
It was a simple and solid plan. However, Steve wasn’t used to the confidence that Peggy tended to give off. Did he admire it and love it? Yes, no doubt. Did it scare him at times, or more so intimidate him? Yes, again.
So after some light teasing from his little sister, she gave him some tips to impress her best friend, as well as, reassured him she was a sweet girl on the inside. Just someone who has lived in a man's world a little too long and has to put up a front of intimidation. Once you get past that, you have a loyal and kind person to bond with.
Needless to say, the date went off without a hitch and the two were now celebrating two strong months of dating.
Becca had finished up college and was already secured in a job as a child psychologist at a new hospital in upstate New York. She was a little further away now, but that didn’t stop her from coming and visiting. It just so happened that her new boyfriend lived down the hall from Y/N. If you know, you know.
His name was Thor and after some light flirting every other time she came to visit Y/N, she asked him on a date which he accepted. They were on the route of 3 months of dating now. He had joined the friend group to an extent and got along great with the whole crew.
Wanda and Vis’s boys were growing up faster than light itself and would be about 6 months soon. After Bucky and Y/N’s last time babysitting, they were recruited a few more times since they did so great with them. They may have been thrown for a whirlwind the first time around, but they were a lot easier the next few date nights.
Nat and Clint had gotten married last month. They were coming back from their belated honeymoon now in Budapest. The wedding was beautiful and everyone being together all at once again, was a joy and it showed just how much the group of friends was growing. Each of them hitting a new and different stage in life.
Back to the present...
Bucky had planned a one year anniversary date for him and Y/N. One that was bound to be unforgettable.
Y/N asked if they could keep it simple with just a picnic in the park since it was going to be cold soon in New York, and she wanted to soak up the last bit of summer that was left.
“Ok, you have everything set for the night?” Steve asked as Bucky buttoned the cuff to his button up.
“I hope so. I go to pick up Y/N in 10 minutes,” Bucky sighed in nervousness.
“Hey, don’t worry about it man. You know it’ll all work out how it’s supposed to,” Steve chuckled, coming over and patting his friends shoulder in reassurance. “Plus, you had Peggy and I help you plan this out. No way it could go wrong with our expertise.”
“You say that, but watch me slip up somewhere,” Bucky mumbled, straightening his clothes.
“You’re putting nerves where they aren’t needed. Stop thinking worst case scenario,” Steve groaned, walking out the bedroom door with Bucky behind. “What would Y/N say about that?”
“That it’s premature and won’t do me any good to think negatively,” he muttered, knowing the exact words to come from the optimist.
“Exactly. So stop stressing and go with the flow of things. Nothing good is going to come out of you waiting for the worst thing to happen tonight,” Steve shook his head.
“It’s supposed to be a night to remember. Not a night to dread,” Peggy interrupted as she came to Steve’s side with a little note in hand she saw on the counter in a spot it may have been easily lost. “Here, you may want this though if you do want it to go well.”
“Right, thanks,” Bucky nodded quickly, taking the item.
“You guys will meet us there right? Everyone else ready too?” Bucky asked.
“Everyone else is ready. You’ll be fine Buck,” Steve laughed again. “You sound like me the night I took this gal out.”
“Is that so?” Peggy smirked, leaning more into Steve’s side as he wrapped an arm around her.
“Yeah, he’s a little worse than I was, but he’s doing something a little bigger than a simple date,” Steve winked to Bucky. The brunette sent him an eyeroll.
Peggy looked down at her watch and gasped. “You need to get going, Bucky. She’ll be expecting you any minute,” Peggy moved to push him out the door with a bouquet of flowers in her hand to give him.
_______________
Bucky had made it to Y/N’s apartment in perfect timing, but found himself faltering at the door. His whole body was made up of nerves at that moment. He couldn’t seem to shake them no matter what he told himself.
Lucky for him, all it took was Y/N opening the door and sending him that sweet smile accented with one of her simple little dresses, that made those nerves dissipate.
Tumblr media
“You look great,” he said with a lovestruck school boy and sappy smile.
“Thanks B,” she blushed, scrunching her shoulders in a bashful way. “Here, come in for a second before we leave,” she motioned him in as he followed. “I need to put on a pair of earrings and I’ll be set.” She stood on her toes giving him a gentle kiss to the lips.
Before she could walk off, he put the flowers between them and smiled.
“For you as always,” he winked.
“And everytime, it makes me happier and happier,” she winked back, giving him a bonus kiss. “I actually bought a new vase since I’m lucky enough to get gifted with them everytime we go on a date. Want to put those in it?” she asked as she started walking to her bathroom.
“Hard not to give a pretty girl flowers every chance you get,” he noted, going into the kitchen where the new vase sat. “That plus, I know you like the greenery.”
“It makes me very happy,” she smiled, coming back in with her hands working to put the last pair of earrings on. “Ok, I’m all ready handsome. Shall we?”
“I would love nothing more,” he smiled back offering his arm.
“I like this little routine we have,” she giggled as they walked to the door.
“I can agree,” he nodded, pressing his lips to her temple before they left the building.

They started off with a quick stop to Winnie’s shop, as Bucky said he had a gift there for them to pick up.
Winnie was all dressed up and Bucky’s dad and Becca were also there.
“Well, you guys look all spiffy,” Y/N noted, walking in the doors where the group was patiently waiting for the couple. Becca and Winnie in dresses and Bucky’s dad, George, in a nice button up like his son. “You're not by chance celebrating an anniversary like us, are you?” Y/N teased still locked into Bucky’s arm.
“We can celebrate yours a little with you too, can’t we?” Winnie asked, going in for a hug.
“The more the merrier,” Y/N replied cheerfully.
“No, no. We wouldn’t intrude on your anniversary date,” Becca nodded off. “However, we did want to give you guys a gift before we go off to dinner. We’re meeting Thor to eat soon.”
“Oh, I see. Boyfriend’s meeting the parents?”
“We’ve already met him and we enjoy him,” Winnie waved off. “Plus, we have Bucky and yours sign of approval, so that goes a long way too.”
“These are the facts,” Bucky agreed. “Uh, Mom, we do have to go to the next stop I have planned though, so…” Bucky said with a raise of his eyebrow in a hinting manner.
“Right, right! I won’t keep you long I promise!” Winnie rushed to the counter where a book and a picnic basket was sitting. “Ok, here you go, but don’t open that book until after dinner,” she warned Y/N as she handed it off to Bucky for safe keeping. “It has another little gift in it I don’t want to spoil.”
“In that case, I’ll let Bucky hold onto it then. You know I can’t help opening a book if it’s sitting right in front of me,” Y/N chuckled. The rest of the crew laughed with her.
“Ok, Ma, Dad, Sis,” Bucky waved off redirecting the two to the door. “We’ll see you guys later.”
“Yeah, later!” Becca said with an odd tone. One that showed she knew something, but Y/N didn’t know what.
______________
They made it to the park where Bucky had the whole nine-yards of a pinterest perfect picnic planned. His mom had packed a light meal, while the rest of the basket held a blanket, wine glasses, and other little decorations to make the set up special.
“Look at you being oh so the romantic,” Y/N noted once they had set everything out. “This is impressive.”
“I would say I did it all, but Becca helped with the decorations aspect of it,” Bucky chuckled as he set up some of the food.
The two sat and ate for a little, watching the motions of the park play in front of them as they talked about their day and any other thoughts that came to mind. They were facing straight west, so the sun would be setting right in front of them when the time came. And it was coming soon as they finished up their meal.
“Ok, present time,” Y/N noted, turning to her purse and pulling out something from it. The gift was wrapped in a little brown wrapping paper with a twine string around it. “Open mine first because I can’t wait to see your reaction.”
Bucky chuckled at her childlike excitement and took the present as he sat up from where he was laying on his side. Carefully not to disrupt her precise wrapping, he undid the bow and peeled away the brown wrap around the box. Taking off the lid, inside sat two little slips of paper that looked like tickets.
He quirked an eyebrow confused at what they could be, and when he turned them over and looked closer, he saw they were plane tickets.
“Two tickets to… Rome?” Bucky gasped. “Y/N-”
“I wanted to show you everything I got to experience. Italy, Verona, Venice, and all,” she smiled softly, leaning closer to him. Her eyes never broke away from his face.
“Y/N, this is…” He smiled down at the paper before bringing his eyes up slowly to meet hers. “I would love nothing more than to experience that all through your eyes.”
Y/N blushed hard and the two leaned forward in sync to kiss.
“I’m glad you like it. But I want you to see it in your own way, I’m just happy to be your tour guide,” she smiled harder. Their noses were practically still touching.
“Either way, it’ll be an experience I’ll be counting down for,” he said, leaning in for one more kiss.
When he pulled back he noticed the sun was settling down with the perfect glow. It was now or never…
“Ok, I guess it’s my turn for the gifts,” he said, taking in a deep breath. “It’s actually in the book.” He turned around grabbing the book his mother had handed off to him earlier, and carefully opened the cover. “This one’s long overdue, but it’s one that I’m starting to realize may have been meant for this specific time in our lives anyway.”
Handing over an old letter, she noticed it had changed colors from small stains and wear of when it was originally written. She was confused some by the details of the packaging, but when she saw it was addressed to her on the front, she picked up on what it was.
The address and her name was that of her childhood home, but what gave away it’s age, was the return address of where Bucky was stationed all those years back when he was in the army.
“Buck,” she said softly.
“I wrote it way back when. Shortly after I realized that you were someone I…” He paused trying to find his wording. “Well, when I realized you were the kind of person I would want to spend the rest of my life with.”
Y/N looked up from the letter she was holding ever so delicately in her hand. Scared she would damage the antique writing.
“You don’t have to read it now, but to sum it up, I never sent it because I knew, at least I thought I knew,” he chuckled under his breath looking down at it. “I could never deserve someone like you. You were always so kind and wise when I was going through my mess of life overseas. You had things of your own that you were working through, and yet you put it aside for me when I felt like I was alone and drowning in a foreign home.”
He closed his eyes, picturing all the times he wanted to give up. When he wanted to call it quits after the things he saw, the things he did. It killed him on the inside. Mentally, emotionally, he didn’t hold strong like he thought he would be able to.
“The only thing that kept me sane over there and gave me hope, was receiving letters from you. I know I teased you to begin with, but as time went on, your words, your advice, and your love that you somehow were able to ship overseas to me with just ink on a paper, kept me alive. Kept me from giving up.”
He looked up finally and saw tears in Y/N’s eyes. The look on her face was heartbreaking yet so loving all at once. It showed how she hated hearing just how lost Bucky was, but also showed just how grateful he was there. He was there now and it was partially because of their letters to each other. More than she could ever imagine though.
She believed she may have played a role, but it was Bucky himself that held strong. He was the one who pushed through in those hardships and made the effort to keep going on. Not her. But to him, she was the angel on his shoulder keeping him from sinking in times where the waves were just too strong to push back on.
“I wrote out all my feeling and thoughts in that letter. I think it’s like five pages,” he said in a single laugh. “But I never sent it.”
“Why?” was all she breathed out and he moved his hand to wipe the stray tear off her cheek. His hand staying there and running over the bone it had landed on. She leaned into the touch like it would be her last time feeling it.
“I didn’t deserve you. Hell, I’m still not sure I do, but I’m going to make damn sure that I spend every waking hour of my life, every minute, doing my best to get there.”
There was a pause as she took his hand and moved closer to him, their foreheads pressed to the other.
“Bucky you deserve everything and more in this world,” she said softly. “Don’t ever think you should have anything less than that.”
“I know, doll. And it’s because of you I realize I can strive for it all,” he sighed, breathing in her presence.
They stayed like that for a while. Taking in the moment. Taking in the air. Taking in the wholesome and doting atmosphere.
It wasn’t until the lights started to get low, Bucky realized he would run out of time for his next gift soon.
“Y/N, I have one more thing to give you,” Bucky sighed, nervously pulling back and grabbing the book again. “Now, I know this is a cheesy way to do this, but I couldn’t think of a better way,” he chuckled lightly.
He grabbed her hand and helped her stand. The sun now on the horizon giving the perfect golden shine to everything around them.
When she stood with him, he brought the book in between them.
“Ok, open it carefully to page 214,” he nodded, handing her the book.
She sent him a confused look, but followed the directions anyway. Like asked, she gently flipped the books from the beginning before she reached said number. Just as she pulled back page 213, right in the middle of the book, the pages stopped lifting and inside was a little cut out square that held a small ring. One with a beautiful white shining stone in the middle, encrusted by a gold intricate design.
“Oh, my-” she didn’t even finish the sentence as she looked down a the ring. Her grip on the book tightening as her other hand came up to cover her mouth.
Bucky let out a small nervous chuckle at the reaction before slowly taking out the ring and bending to one knee. The book still in her hand, she gasped again watching Bucky move down.
“Y/N Josephine Rogers,” he started with the brightest smile on his face. “I would be nothing but forever grateful if you allowed a guy like me, to have you as my wife.”
She didn’t answer right away as she was clearly in awe and still processing the last 20 seconds of what just happened. The only thing breaking her out of her shock, was the sound of Bucky laughing again.
“Is that a yes, or am I indeed just making a fool of myself?” he said with a scrunch of his nose.
“No! Oh, my God, yes! Yes, yes, yes! A thousand times yes Bucky!” she jumped up and down before wrapping her arms around his neck and tackling him to the ground.
He let out an, ‘oof’ sound as he caught them from the fall and held tightly to the ring not to lose it. He was now on his back and she was laying on top of him giggling and squeezing him in excitement.
“Ok, good. I was worried I might have read the signals you were giving me wrong,” he joked.
“You’re a dork,” she laughed, pulling and looking at him lovingly before going in for the kiss of all kisses.
They were quickly pulled away from it when cheers and whistles started going off around them.
Y/N looked up from where they were laying on top of the other and noticed herds of people they knew coming out from random parts of the park smiling and whooping in elation.
“Is that-?” she started, once again taken aback.
“Everyone? Yeah. They were kinda in on it,” Bucky chuckled. “Hey, did you get that last part?” he shouted toward Nat who was coming around a tree with Clint and a professional camera in hand.
“Oh, it was the best picture of them all I’m pretty sure,” she smirked.
“You little stinker,” Y/N scoffed, pushing off of him to sit up more. “How in the world did you pull this all together?”
Wanda, Vis, and the twins were there. Steve had his arm around Peggy with Sam next to them and Sarah next to Steve. Winnie, George, Becca, and Thor were all there too smiling and laughing. Everyone was there. The whole crew was apart of the moment.
“It was easy. I told them I was asking the girl of my dreams to marry me, and they asked when and where. Not much convincing on my part,” he answered, offering her his hand as they stood back up.
“You guys,” Y/N gushed, wrapping her arms around Bucky’s waist, which he gladly wrapped his arm around her. “This is too sweet.”
“Nothing sweeter than you giving Bucky a run for his money with that delayed answer,” Sam teased.
“Back off, punk,” Bucky rolled his eyes, pulling her closer to him as if any second she’d change her mind.
“I will say, he did catch me off guard,” Y/N laughed in response.
“Oh, my sweet girl is getting married! And to the sweetest boy a mom can hope for,” Sarah interrupted, instantly running to her daughter and almost tackling her like she had Bucky.
“Mom!” Y/N laughed, catching her balance.
The next 15 minutes went on like that as the sun set behind them, giving off the final glows of the evening.
Sarah and Winnie blubbering on about how their little boy and little girl were going to be husband and wife. Then of course going on and on in excitement for the wedding details of it all. At that point they pushed them off for George and Becca to handle as they talked with everyone else.
Wanda and Vis saying how Billy and Tommy would be glad to be a part of the wedding if they needed them to. Nat gave Y/N little details and advice with planning the party and also offering to lend a hand where it was needed since she just got done with her own.
Then Steve and Peggy also congratulate them and express their excitement for all that was to come for the couple, and all the fun double dates they would/ already had been taking apart in.
Once it got dark, Steve announced to the crew the little celebration they had set up at Roger's home for an after party of the engagement. Everyone agreed they would meet there.
So as Y/N and Bucky grabbed their things and started walking to the car, Y/N stopped him as he was about to close the car door for her.
“Hey,” she turned where she was standing on the sidewalk. Bucky just inches from her.
“Hey,” he responded with a goofy grin.
“I love you so so much. You know that right?”
“I know Y/N. And I love you so so much too, doll.”
Thank you so much for reading!! Keep an eye out for a possible one-shot/ prologue of this story;)

September 2016
You had hoped that after 3 months of hanging around the guys, you would have gotten used to their constant energy. But sitting in the studio, you realized you might never get used to it.
Lazily you spun yourself around in the rolling chair at the monitor, Kells sitting next to you with his back to the desk. “Dawg, I’m telling you, you were wasted as fuck,” his loud voice rang through your ears, making the headache you were nurturing even worse.
The boys were having a conversation about something that had gone on in the club the other night with Rook, who was arguing that it wasn’t as big of a deal as Kells was making it out to be. To be fair, Rook was that drunk, but it really wasn’t all that funny.
You tuned them out as best as possible, turning back to the computer and looking at the track again, sighing at the thought of hearing it blare through the headphones. As Slim, Baze, and Rook continued arguing, Kells turned to you.
He seemed to look right through you, taking in the bags under your eyes and the slight frown on your face. “Hey,” he spoke quietly, “you okay?”
You gave him a small nod, placing the headphones over your ears with a fake smile. His hand reached out and tugged them gently off your head. “Seriously, you look like shit.”
Rolling your eyes, you gave a monotone answer, “thanks, Kells. You sure know how to treat a lady.” You let out a dry chuckle as he continued to stare at you, a teasing pout on his face, “I’m fine, I just have a headache, it’s nothing.”
He swiveled his chair so that his front was facing your side, reaching out and turning your chair so you could be face to face. His knees bumped up against your own lightly, “we can take a break if you want, pick back up tomorrow.”
You shook your head, “I’m fine, there’s just a lot of noise right now, but it’s nothing. I just want to finish this song; we’ve been working on it for way too long now.” You tried to play off the throbbing in your brain as Slim and Baze laughed obnoxiously a few feet away from you.
He rolled his eyes, “You are the one that keeps editing it.” His tone was teasing, but you couldn’t help but agree. There was something about the track that just wasn’t right yet. “But it can wait another day, go home. Or I’ll send these fuckers home.”
You chuckled, “aren’t you guys technically at home?” He sent you an unamused look, making you pout, “look, I can’t figure out what it is, but something needs to be fixed.”
He let out a breath through his nose, imitating laughter, “I know, you keep saying that. And I trust you, but you’re not going to figure it out if you’re in a mood.”
A glare came over your features, directed at him, “I am not in a mood.” You shoved him playfully, his chair spinning slightly, “I’m just in pain. My head feels like it’s eating itself.”
“That’d make a good lyric,” he commented with a smirk, shoving you back. “Go home.”
You smacked his hand away lightly, “don’t tell me what to do. Now let me work.” You tried to turn back to the computer while placing the headphones back over your ears, but Kells just spun you back towards him.
“How about you let me listen to it for once,” his tone was playful, but you couldn’t help but gape at the audacity.
You handed him the headphones, “I have been trying to get you to do that for the past 3 hours!” He chuckled, placing the speakers over his ears, and pressing play. “Is this what it takes to get you to work? My pain?” you teased halfheartedly.
Truthfully, Kells had a way of distracting you from whatever happened to be bothering you, including your headache. It was one of the many reasons you liked being around him so much.
He nodded his head to what you assumed was the beat, making you giggle lightly. He paused the song midway, taking off the headphones and frowning. “What if we tried carrying the initial guitar riff through at that little middle part.”
You raised an eyebrow, turning to the computer and fidgeting with the track to add the raw guitar into the space. You didn’t notice, but you and Kells were very closely huddled around the computer.
The other guys in the room, however, did take notice. Slim elbowed Rook, pointing over in your direction as you and Kells cracked lighthearted jokes and worked on the song together.
Rook let out a chuckle that was lost on your ears as Baze quietly teased, “I give it two months, max.”
The younger boy shook his head, “hell naw, you think Kells is gonna wait that long?”
Baze flicked Rook in the head, “that’s why I said max, dumbass.”
Rook shoved the older one, starting a small war between the two of them. Slim rolled his eyes, speaking over the two’s fighting, “she’s way too smart for that, it’ll take way longer for her to come around to that.”
After another 15 minutes of you and Kells working intensely on fixing the music and the guys teasing you about how cute you were behind your backs, you could listen to a rough sample of your new and improved track.
“This is fucking fire, dude,” Kells said loudly as he listened with the headphones. You laughed at the volume, feeling better than before and giddy at the thought of having fixed the track.
Once he had finished, he placed the headphones over your ears and played the song in its entirety, your voices flowing together naturally over the music. When the revised part came, you were shocked at how much better it sounded, even if it was still just a rough edit.
You took the headphones off, beaming at him, “you are a genius.”
He teased, “so I’ve been told.” You rolled your eyes, knocking his knee with yours playfully. He shoved your shoulder softly, voice lowering, “you should go home. We can polish this part tomorrow and get it ready for a release.”
You shook your head, volume matching his “I’m fine, Kells. It’s just a headache and we’re almost finished, I can manage.”
“I’m not touching another button today and you are going home, end of story.” You whined but gave no real protest, reaching for your purse and keys. He patted you on the head mockingly, “good girl.”
You glared up at him, “call me that again, and I will hurt you.” He chuckled, standing up with you, and walking you to the door.
He called to the guys, “thanks for all the work today guys, really helpful.” His words dripped with sarcasm, making you giggle.
Slim shrugged, “looked like you two had it handled, we weren’t gonna interrupt.” Rook and Baze snickered, making you roll your eyes.
“Well, I’m out. See you guys tomorrow.” You threw up a peace sign to the men.
Baze checked his phone, “are you sure you want to drive this late? It’s almost 3 am.”
You sighed, realizing he was right. A pout fell on your face as you muttered, “it’s fine, I’ll be okay.” You turned to head out the door, throwing a smile at the boys. Kells followed you out to the main area of the house, grabbing your wrist gently in the living room to stop you from leaving.
“You can stay here tonight if you want. It’d probably be better anyways if you still feel bad.”
His gentle touch on your arm seemed to send a soft feeling throughout your body, something unfamiliar to you. You shook it off, giving him a small smile. As much as you knew you probably should stay, you needed to get out of this house before any other unexplained feelings arose. “Thanks, Kells, but I’ll be fine. I live all of 10 minutes away.”
He shrugged, acting nonchalant, “fine, just text us when you get home.”
You rolled your eyes, walking to the front door, “okay, Dad.”
He chuckled, “shut up, loser.” You flicked him off playfully as you left, the door closing behind you.
Mere moments after you left he heard three laughs from behind him, “oh Y/N! Please stay the night with us.” Rook mocked an overly dramatic Kells impression.
Baze continued with a “I’ll do anything for you Y/N, I’m just so in love with you!”
Slim shook his head, walking over and clapping his best friend on the back, “ignore them.” He said, “we all know you’ll confess to her in your own time.”
Kells scoffed, an eyebrow raised, “I am not in love with Y/N. She’s just a friend. A better one than you three.”
The boys laughed and rolled their eyes, “okay,” Rook said, unconvinced.

The 4 Times People Suspected About Remus and Sirius, and The One Time They Called It By Name
.-
~I~
Peter notices it first.
He doesn’t know quite what it is, or what it means— Peter doesn’t understand what it entails when he’s watching the way Sirius gently thumbs at a high patch on Remus’s cheek while he’s sleeping on the hospital bed after the first full moon of fourth year, a fraught look in his stormy eyes. Or how Remus’s gaze always search Sirius out first after he’s made a wry comment in the expense of the Slytherins, going alight with the other boy’s laughter. Peter doesn’t comprehend the way it sometimes seems like he’s caught in some sort of static— a negative space that makes him feel out of bounds— when he’s alone with only the pair of them. When they’re all huddled around the common area or their dormitory while James is probably skulking in search of Lily Evans or cajoling the other chasers to have another lap around the court. With Remus lounging on his fourposter, or the sofa, reading one of the infinite books he’s got tucked away in his trunk, and Sirius is quietly  sat by his feet, toying with a non-magical contraption he’s found in Muggle London after sneaking out from his ancestral home while his folks were having a row. And Peter is ordinarily just fiddling with a scroll he has to finish for one of the tougher courses from a bit away, intermittently  glancing at them side long, just waiting for an excuse to leave the suffocating ambiance that feels like it’s been fitted for just the pair of them and not another soul.
But the most peculiar part about all of this is that Peter is accustomed to feeling like the spare, the cast off who’s clinging to the glimmering forms that are James and Sirius, and their ravenous appetite for any and all attention that’s given over because that’s the sort of boys they are— affluent and prominent and radiating with a sort of spark that’s all there own— the sort of boys that others find doubtless that they are something miraculous. But when Peter’s around just the pair of them, in the corner of the galaxy that the marauders have carved for them to rule like kings— It never feels quite so stilted, so weighty. Sirius and James have a gift of making everyone in the room feel like they’re in on the joke, that they could be showered with that same granger just as long as they play in the tableau. Remus and Sirius together feels the contrary of that, like there’s something pregnant lying between them, waiting to pounce. Like there’s an understanding that no one else gets to glimpse at, and no one else should try. An understanding  that’s personal and private and crackling with an energy that is far beyond anything between mere friends, beyond anything Peter could fathom with all his fifteen years.
Idly, over supper after an entire two hours being stuck between that strange tension simmering beneath the surface of Remus and Sirius, Peter wonders for the umpteenth time on whether he should ask James about this development in their small brotherhood, should ask him if he’s detected the difference there. And if he has, Peter will listen to James’s plan to ensure this doesn’t ruin anything. How whatever is brewing under the surface won’t absolutely ruin them.
But then, from the corner of his eye, Peter sees Sirius— none to gently— piling Remus’s plate with an abundance of the potatoes that Moony likes best, dipping down to whisper something in his ear— something surely lecherous— before tousling his curls in that brash, bombastic way of his that he does with Peter and James too, even if he ends it by gingerly cupping the nape of Remus’s neck with a surreptitious squeeze that ends just as quickly as it began, falling back into conversation with James and Marlene about the Wasps’s chances against the Harpies this Friday night as if it was just an innate action, even if it’s one Peter’s only ever witnessed him doing to Remus.
And even though there’s another full in two days, and even though Remus looks like a walking inferi— pale faced and exhausted posture and circles the color of midnight smudged beneath his eyes— Peter watches the ends of his lips quirk up into the best approximation of a smile Peter’s ever seen on him so close to the wolf breaking through the surface of his body that’s all skin and bones, and he isn’t sure if it’s a trick of the light or not, but Remus actually looks like he might be glowing over the strange attention that Sirius’s only ever paid to him.
So no… No, Peter doesn’t think he’ll ask James quite yet, reckons that if anything can help his moon plagued friend, that it must be something good, something that shouldn’t be tempered with.
They can figure out how the strange string pulling Remus and Sirius together will alter their brotherhood later on, there’s still time. There’ still a possibility that it won’t devastate everything.
~II~
Lily’s suspected for a while.
The thing is that she’s known about Remus since the end of third year, when he rebuffed the advances of an eager Heleen  Abed, and Lily found him on the ledge of the largest window in the vacant common room— the same one that they regularly commandeer with Mary McDonald to discuss the finer points of Muggle politics and current events, separate from the melting pot of their Gryffindor class that’s composed of either pure bloods or those with their closest Muggle relative being a long dead grandparent. And it was definitely a dangerous, knife’s edge she was playing at, but Lily had sat besides the boy who she’s cultivated a real and true friendship with— one beyond pleasant platitudes and fodder about their course work— and she told him about her cousin Joey with green spiked hair and a mischievous smile adorned with a sparkling stud and how she and Petunia had caught him holding hands with one of his friends from sixth-form in the garden of her Aunt’s cottage, and how even the sneer on her older sisters lips hadn’t deterred Lily from thinking anything but mild indifference about the situation. Only wanting her cousin to always live in that easy effervescence she’s always known when it came to him.
And nothing else was exchanged between them, but Remus had grinned in that barely perceptible way of his, and Lily had nudged his shoulder with her own and then fished out her final handful of chocolate frogs for them to share while they revise their notes for the transfiguration exam coming up.
Two summers have past since then—they’re in the midst  of their final term of fifth year now— and she thinks that they’ve become even closer, that the frequent late nights in the library for their impending OWLs and their countless prefect rounds has helped forge a real and true bond— especially that whole snag earlier in the year when they had realized they were both snogging Leon Bennett on alternating nights behind greenhouse three. But all of that withstanding, Lily knows that there are still secrets Remus keeps tight to his chest, ones that Lily’s analytical mind— the mind of a potions expert and future healer— has suspected to do with the thin, silvery scars running down his strong hands that are all tapered fingers and slender wrists, and another across his right bicep that she saw when he had changed his robes for a jumper in front of her, and the one cutting down from the bottom of his ear and nearly across the entire length of his neck, ending at the corner of his sharp collarbone. But Lily suspects he’ll tell her about that soon enough, what she isn’t so confident about is him admitting that particularly dazed look he gets when around Black, of all people. The way he stammers his words occasionally and the way he worries on his bottom lip while averting his glance when Sirius is chatting up a very pleased looking girl, and the way he flushes when Lily is ribbing about him in particular. And Lily knows that the foursome of Gryffindor boys had a falling out of sorts before winter hols, that there’s a hairline fracture between them and Remus now— one that she’s sure no one else can pick up on after the way they had seemingly come back together in late January, right before her birthday funnily enough. But Lily’s always been the analytical  sort— the sort to absorb the barebones of a situation so she could conjure a hypothesis that she could prove after careful study.
So Lily knows that it’s something deeper, and she can see  how Remus is reticent around them in ways she’s actually worried won’t be shaken off anytime soon— which is all levels of bazaar considering she’s been telling Remus for years that he needs to shrug off his rowdy mates like a snake shedding an old coat. But before, when she’d barb as much he’d only stick out his tongue and tell her what happens to busybodies, and how she doesn’t really know them at all. But now days, he just looks particularly hurt, and more than a bit put out, and Lily catches him flickering over to wherever Sirius was holding court, longing in a way she couldn’t possibly articulate out loud.
Honestly Lily thinks it’s really quite gracious of her to have dropped the subject completely, rather, she takes up the mantel of his friend that can distract him from all those sorts of woes, biting her tongue over his lingering feelings for Sirius that are more than likely far beyond a passing fancy. And she thinks that maybe that’s a good call, maybe it’s good for Remus to beat down those sorts of emotions  that he’s harboring for the wanker. She knows Remus, and she knows he wouldn’t hold a grudge— even such a quiet one— for no reason at all. Besides, she doesn’t really think it’s her place to tell him how when he’s glancing away, Sirius is holding vigil to him with that same sort of fervor. That Sirius is the one who collects the notes for all his classes on those conspicuous absences of his when Remus is feeling poorly in the infirmary. That Sirius occasionally looks so very gutted when Remus is wilting away from them, when he seeks Lily’s company instead.
She has a heavy suspicion that Remus might already know all of those things— that maybe they’ve already discussed it at length, that maybe the falling out in December has caused a full stop of anything that could’ve potentially blossomed between them. And she just wishes she knew the entire story so she could decide on whether she should be jinxing Black’s face to a putrid orange color, or pushing Remus to actually give him a chance.
Lily just wishes she could read Black as easily as she can Remus, maybe that would help in this experiment she’s testing, because for now she’s just confused as all hell over what exactly Black feels towards him. Well that is until it’s a fortnight before Remus’s birthday, and she’s being bodily dragged into a closet on her way to charms.
“Oi— What the bloody—“
“Language, Evans,” the annoyingly familiar baritone of Sirius Black tsks, lighting up the cupboard with his wand and smirking in that jagged way she’s heard countless girls tittering over, and the one that makes her want to pop him one right against his ridiculously smug face.
“Black,” she says, caustic as all get out with her fists clenched against her sides and her brows making a really resilient effort to meet in the middle. “You’ve got thirty seconds before I hex your bollocks off.”
“Pff, and Jamie thinks you’re some sort of saint.”
“Twenty-eight. Twenty-seven. Twenty-six.”
Sirius pulls a face at her, but must understand the credence in the words, because it’s not another moment more before he pulls out a bedraggled looking slip of paper from his robe’s pocket, and thrusts it at her face. So with an indignant huff, Lily opens it up and begins scanning the words— becoming all the more confused when she sees measurements and things like coco powder and melted butter, instead of whatever the hell else she was preparing herself to read.
“I’m being pranked, aren’t I? You’re trying to distract me so you and Potter can do something horrid to the Slytherin’s common room.”
“We’ve actually already done that today,” Sirius jeers, raising up his hands in concession with a cluck of the tongue at her scowling face. “’s from Moony’s mum, all right. I asked her to send me the recipe of this chocolate cake she use to make him for his birthdays before Hogwarts— I just thought… It might be nice is all, and you can sod right off if you look at me like that, Evans, with the soft eyes and all that rot. Are you going to help me or not?”
Lily resolutely ignores the pang to her heart, because God, this really is such a sweet gesture. “And what? you thought I could help you because I’m a bird?” She asks in the most scolding inflection she could muster in the face of this incredibly soppy gift he wants to give Remus.
“None of that, blimey, Evans.” Sirius snarls, obviously diffident, and combined with the faint flush to his cheeks, Lily suddenly realizes why he’s considered one of the best looking blokes in the entirety of their school. “There’s a whole load of Muggle mumbo jumbo, so it was between asking you, or McDonald, and I adore Mary and all, but  she has got such a mouth on her.”
“You should know,” Lily counters with a leer. “She couldn’t stop going on about your date back in October.”
Sirius’s brows hike, and he actually smiles at her— one that’s vacant from all his bravado from his upbringing in his pretentious, pure blood home, and one that isn’t trying to show off. And Lily can’t help but favoringly liken him to an excited pug. “Oh you’re wicked, Evans!” He shrills delightedly. “Oh this is great, you’re just as depraved as Remus, are all prefects like this?”
Lily snorts, shaking her head at him, indulgent. “Never mind that, Black. Most of this stuff can be found in the kitchens below, I’m sure the house elves won’t mind us borrowing anything.”
“And the ingredients that won’t be down their?” He asks worriedly.
“Well, good on you planning this so far ahead of time, we’ll just have to experiment.”
Sirius groans in retort, muttering things about Muggle potions and James thinking he’s getting off with his future wife and other ridiculous things that Lily doesn’t bother to stay and listen to. Though, when Remus’s birthday does roll around, and she sees his countenance go a thousand shades brighter as he bites into the pudding, and Sirius’s grin stretch just that much more across his face in response— their eyes meeting across the room and past the crowds— Well Lily suspects Sirius never really minded any of the things he was whinging on about, not at all, not as long as the result was a beaming Remus.

Regulus hears about it in the halls.
He’s not much for gossip or that sort of dribble, doesn’t have much patience for anyone outside his house if he’s being at all frank— and even then, it’s not as if he doesn’t frequently find himself escaping to his fourposter for a moment’s quiet. It seems that everyone in this bloody castle are just dimwitted, daft idiots, and Regulus’s never been the sort to offer allowances for that kind of behavior. He’s been raised in the home of a family as close to royalty as Wizards permit, a prince among men. And he was told that he should have patience for the dull folks beneath him, just as long as they have the correct ideals, but sometimes he can’t help but wish they would all just let him be, sometimes feels like he’s being carted around Hogwarts as the perfect pure blood,  like he was nine years old again and being shown off in the parlor of  his home when guests came to call, watching from the sidelines while his mother rave about how splendid of an heir Sirius is turning out to be. How his tutor calls him a genius for any age, and how darling he looks in Slytherin green, and how he’s already mastered three romance languages to help in his spell work.
And Regulus can’t help but scoff at those contemplations now, thinking of the past summer when his dramatic and brash brother had made a whole production of leaving behind the values that gave him everything he has. How he escaped to that Potter git’s home the way he’s been doing for nearly every holiday since his second year, how he offered Regulus to come along as if he’s a trader just like him. What a risible excuse for an heir.
But Regulus won’t commit such follies, he’ll make his parents proud— even if his father is nearly never paying much mind and his mother goes from raving to sickly in a blink of an eye. It doesn’t matter, because he’ll carry on the Black legacy, something that his oh so perfect brother never could’ve done. Regulus is only a fifth year, will be turning sixteen in only two months after Sirius’s coming of age, and sure, this might mean he’s still young enough that the Death Eaters don’t find him adequate to fight on the line of fire, but he’ll do it eventually, feels the weight of the letter from Bellatrix praising him for as much resting heavy in his pocket. And if Regulus finds them all a bit too vicious or a bit too excitable and completely lacking a deft hand to make the changes they’re searching for, he shrugs it off. He knows what he must do, and as he stares at his brother from across the valley cusping the lake, he’s only that much more steadfast in the conviction of the fact.
Sirius is sitting and laughing with a group of his Gryffindor mates, the mudbloods, and blood traders that had warped him from the brother he knew to the stranger he is now. And there’s a dark skinned Ravenclaw bird— Meadowes if he remembers correctly from his prefect meetings— and she’s telling some sort of long winded tail with hand gestures and loud cackling coming from the group as she goes on. And Sirius is tossing around a quaffle with Potter— the glint of a handsome, silver watch on his wrist catching in the dying sunlight. And Regulus wonders who had gifted him such a personal passage to adulthood, but is soon distracted by spotting the way Sirius nearly gets smacked in the face with the ball because he was too busy gawking over  at Lupin in such a stripped down, cautious way that it makes Regulus squirm.
He doesn’t know much about the elder Prefect, only that his name had come up nearly as much as Potters during that first year when Sirius would send him correspondence on a frequent basis because he knew how lonely Regulus would get while stuck in Grimmauld all by himself. And then when he began attending Hogwarts, Regulus never could get a good reading on him. He knew Potter because of how his family is infamous for their liberal views and nouveau riche attitudes, and Pettigrews family owns a hokey herb shop in Diagon. All he’s found out about the Lupins is that his father is the son of half-bloods and his mother is a Muggle, and that this mudblood is a reserved, carefully aloof bugger, and that somehow he’s seemingly captured all of Sirius’s attentions that he’s not giving Potter or the clinger ons who follow him around like mindless fools. Beyond that, Lupin and Regulus have only traded a hand full of words whenever their roles of prefects would force them to intermingle, and it’s always been punctuated by Lupin giving Regulus a witheringly cold look anytime they were in close proximity, which is admittedly impressive considering that half the time the sickly bastard looks like he’s about ready to keel over.
So no, Regulus doesn’t know much about him, but he’s heard the rumors. He knows that it’s basically an open secret between the Gryffindor class and selected friends. The fact that  his brother is probably shagging the mudblood, convincing Regulus that Sirius really has never given a toss about the decorum and standards befalling them as the only two Black males of their generation. And he hates his brother  so scathingly right then, hates his little munblood lover probably even more.
And when he watches Lupin straying his gaze from the novel he was reading while that red haired Muggle born was resting her head in his lap, and Regulus saw the way both of their expressions went a peculiar sort of tender— well that’s the last straw, so he stands up in a huff— so unlike himself— and he cuts the story Mulciber was crowing on about, and he tells them he needs to complete a scroll for Slughorn.
And while he prowls away from the sight of his brother continuing to ruin everything, Regulus plunges a hand into his pocket, and crunches Bellatrix’s letter in his grasp, promises himself to write her back soon, and ignores the ache in his chest that’s only been growing larger since Sirius had left permanently.

James’s always known.
Perhaps that’s an over reach, but it’s true enough. He’s known for years, on some level, that the thing between Sirius and Remus is something completely foreign to him. Something completely separate from how Sirius licks his face when James is over sleeping and he wants to be a general nuisance. Separate from how he and Remus have begun discussing anything and everything in the wee hours of the morning, with a spot of tea between them and a blanket on their legs, because Remus can’t sleep from the moon and James has never been able to sleep through the whole night without feeling guilty over it. He thinks it stemmed from when he was younger, when his parents were feeling sickly, and before they were gifted a house elf by a family friend who recognized that the elderly Potters needed just a bit more assistance.
James never knew whether it was obvious to him because he’s always considered Sirius as his bastard brother since Christmas of first year, and that he’s always trying to make sure that Remus is all right after finding out just how impressively the bloke can keep secrets once Sirius figured out his furry little problem. So he’s not sure what others know, or even what Remus and Sirius  know of what’s happening between them, honestly, there have been so many almosts that James has picked up on over the years. And he still shutters thinking about the near total break that happened with the prank, still isn’t quite sure what had past between them to get Sirius and Remus  speaking with each other once more, but he does know that Remus staying with James, Sirius, and  Peter the past summer after Sirius escaping the twisted place he was suppose to call a home, is what helped indefinitely. And now, a year separate from the prank, things finally feel normal between them.
Well— Erm, not normal per se. Those idiots are still blustering and bumbling and bashfully avoiding one another when anything close to romantic comes up in a discussion or when their hands touch over the Great Hall table or whenever James makes a pointed remark when he catches one of them staring a bit too slack jawed at the other in the midst of something totally bloody innocuous in the eyes of a normal person— EG: Sirius gathering his hair— that’s nearly to the bottom of his neck now a days— into a small knot on the back of his head, or Remus sucking idly on a sugar quill while he’s revising. And sure, James has to deal with the kicks at his ankles, or a spare jinx if one of them is especially pissy, but Lily’s come to join him in the ribbing, so it kind of makes everything all right. Especially when she levels her beautiful, forrest green eyes with his own brown ones, and she actually looks sort of endeared.
Yeah— that’s a fucking amazing feeling all right, and it’s probably the memory of that happening only a few hours ago that has got James all jittery now, far past midnight. So with a tired sigh, he slides open the drapes of his fourposter, is ready to go downstairs for a kitchen raid if Remus isn’t awake— Though once he sets his glasses on, and blinks a few times over to get acclimated with the dark, he’s only a bit stunned to find the shapes of Remus and Sirius crowded on the former’s bed— and they’re really not much more than suggestions beneath the shadows, but it’s enough for James to see Sirius’s head bent low, resting it against the crook of  Moony’s neck and shoulder, while the shorter boy has got his arms wrapped around Sirius’s torso. And it’s nothing obscene, not really— it’s not like they’re nude or anything— but Sirius is shirtless, and Remus does have this blissed out expression painted over his features, that James would bet good money is the same one Sirius has got on if most of his face wasn’t covered by his hair.
And in another breath, Remus’s honey colored eyes flap open, widening exponentially when he catches sight of James, and wiggling around as if he wants to move away from Sirius completely, which is of course stunted when Sirius makes a low noise under his breath, and presses closer so that his mouth is quite literally right against Remus’s neck, and his arms tug him closer.
And James is definitely convinced that he’s the best mate any bloke could ask for when instead of chuckling at the obvious show of territorialism, he just shakes his head indulgently at them, mouthing an “About time plonker,” to Remus, who replies in kind with a hefty, two fingered salute.
This time James has to bite down to prevent his chuckle from spilling out.
“And here I was, about to offer you a snack from our dear house elves.” He whispers, hopefully quiet enough so that only Remus could hear.
“Oh, just bugger off,” Remus retorts, smiling with such mirth that James can’t even feign to be affronted over it, only follows the playful command and tries figuring out just how to give the ‘If you hurt him I’ll hurt you’ talk to the pair of them without it coming across insincerely.

Millie was bored until she saw them.
The only reason why Millie got this boring job in this beyond posh restaurant is because her folks reckon that she needs to learn some form of responsibility before university, and she hates it. The pay is absolute shite, and most of her coworkers are all levels of boring, and the patrons are not nearly entertaining enough to try and make up some secret back story of tumultuous affairs or secret agents from the MI6, or a royal from some country on the continent meeting their star-crossed lover.
It’s all just painfully ordinary, and she’s cursing her parents while she chomps on her gum, reading some stupid note by an ugly old fart who left her his number on the receipt.
Scoffing while she bins it, Millie glances over to the newly occupied table in her section, heart immediately leaping once she gets a good look at the pair of blokes sitting down.
The sandy haired one is definitely cute in that reserved way her best friend Claire would definitely be mad over— the guy who could read you poetry in French or Italian and then gently kisses the back of your hand. And that’s all and well, but Millie’s every attention is laser focussed on his mate, the one that looks like he can be bloody James Bond with those smoldering eyes and that ink black hair, and God, those cheekbones! Definitely one of those beautiful, Public school boys who’s born and bread by the patrician. And while she takes their orders, she tosses him her most flattering of grins and slips in her giggle that an ex boyfriend compared to silver bells, and is sure to flip her long, chestnut hair enough times so he’d notice, even if she’s pretty sure he’s either pissed or probably more than a bit stoned. (Truly, where the bloody hell would he come up with pumpkin juice? How horrid must that taste).
Millie may or may not spend an unreasonable amount of time spying at them from where the cooks drop off the completed plates to be sent away. He’s just so bloody good looking, and she can’t believe this awful job has finally brought her such an amazing distraction, and the arse doesn’t even pay her much mind, leaving the ordering and the conversing to his fair haired friend.
Maybe he’s sensitive, she thinks to herself. Maybe he’s just a shy soul. And yes, that must be it! The poor, beautiful sod. She’s sure to make her intentions clear next time she thinks it’s appropriate to top off their waters, because she’s so very  gracious like that.
“Enjoying yourselves?” Millie asks in her most light hearted of cadences, filling up the shorter one’s glass but smiling fully and exclusively to the boy who looks like he should be starring in some sort of Brook’s Brothers advert.
“Ta,” the sandy haired boy says, sounding a bit amused at her dilemma, but it’s kind enough so Millie doesn’t feel brassed off over it. “Do you mind pointing me to the loo?”
“Oh of course!” She crows, suddenly ecstatic as she directs him, finally getting a chance to be alone with the model. Though when she turns her attention to him once the other one leaves to take a leak, she’s kind of confused how he’s staring after him with a glance she vividly remembers on the face of her ex whenever she’d peer back around to ensure he was watching her go— Though, if Millie’s being honest, the model somehow looks simultaneously eager to watch the back of him, but also already disheartened not to have him around in ways she doubts anyone she’s ever gone out with has ever exhibited. “He’s a nice chap,” she states, instead of marinating on the strangeness of this development.
The practical model starts, seems to have forgotten about her presence all together, but then he glances over towards her with those impossibly flattering, pale gray eyes, and he nods disinterestedly. And yeah, yikes. That is a total hit to Millie’s ego.
“Ahem,” she clears her throat, begins twisting her free hand into the material of her apron. “’S nice you guys came for dinner, you don’t see much friends considering how bloody expensive it is here, hah.”
Millie feels herself going absolutely scarlet at the impassive way he drags his gaze up and down her form before taking a swig of his Bellini. “He’s not my friend.”
“Oh,” Millie practically squeaks out, suddenly wonders if maybe he’s a tutor from his class or something? Maybe the model is just taking the cute one out to dinner as a thanks for helping him pass his A-levels? Maybe this is considered cheap in the circles that the model keeps.
“’S our one year anniversary actually,” he tells her, still in that methodical, blasé way of his. And oh. Oh wow! Suddenly everything is snapping into clarity.
The way the two boys had brushed the back of their hands before being seated, how model had trusted the other boy to order for him, how model never looked away from the cute one’s mouth or collarbones or hands as they spoke. How whenever she came around to ask if they needed anything else, it felt like she was intruding on more than just a couple of mates catching up.
Oh Jesus, she feels like such an idiot, and Millie tells the model just as much.
“I’m sorry, I’m an idiot! I didn’t even put it together.”
Remarkably, the model’s rigid posture goes a bit loose at her apology, and the corner of his thin lips quirk up into a grin. “’S fine, he didn’t want to make a fuss out of it, but yeah— Just feels good telling someone.”
Millie nods eagerly, she can’t understand exactly what he means, obviously not,  but she can definitely try to, and if it feels good for him to tell a random bird about something so important, then she’s more than happy to help. “Well the point stands, yeah? He seems like a good sort, you’re lucky to have found each other.”
The model’s grin goes elastic at that, and he looks actually approachable for the first time tonight. “I’m the luckiest bloke in the world that I get to be with him.”
Millie flushes at the intensity embedded into his statement, but thankfully doesn’t have to answer when she hears the sandy haired boy walking closer now, smiling so brightly that there’s a dimple popping up on the apple of his cheek that Millie’s only just noticed— The mirth is a good color on him, she reckons. Makes him look as gorgeous as those boys on the telly dramas her Mum is always gushing about, even his eyes turn more golden than light brown. “You pestering our waitress Padfoot?”
“You know I keep my devilish tongue for you and you alone Moonbeam,” the model—Padfoot cannot be his actual name for heaven’s sake— retorts.
“Lucky me,” the sandy haired boy says wryly as he takes a seat, and while Millie walks away— intending to get them a pudding that’s on the house to celebrate the milestone of their relationship— she peers back around only once and it’s enough to see the tips of their fingers kissing across the table, and their smiles looking like a secret language not meant for anyone else to read.

“Order for Spencer!” The barista shouted. Spencer grabbed his satchel and his papers and rushed to get his food and coffee. He was waiting for his next class to start and decided to get a snack to clear his head and revise his notes.
He thanked the barista and went to add the insane amount of sugar he likes to add to his coffee.
That’s when he saw her again.
Spencer saw her everywhere. At the coffee shop. On the university campus. At the library. At his favorite bookstore. She was there but strangely it didn’t worry Spencer. She didn’t look dangerous or that she was a threat. She intrigued him. She looked like a normal University student, so it never raised any alarms in Spencer’s head.
She seemed lonely though. That’s what always struck Spencer as interesting. Most college students travel in groups but she was always alone. Reminded Spencer of his time in college.
Spencer bumped into her, carelessly. This was the first time he had seen her up close.
“Oh, are you okay?” Spencer said to her, grabbing her forearm to stabilize her. The woman only nodded. Her eyes were focused on the door of the shop. Spencer looked in the same direction to see a man with short, brown hair standing on the other side of the street, looking at the two. Glaring at the woman. Spencer felt her shiver in his arms.
“Uhm, thank you, sir.” She mumbled under her breath and walked out in a hurry. The man Spencer saw was gone. Spencer frowned at that. She walked to the street where the man was and just like that, she vanished too. Weird way to start the morning.
And things got weirder when Emily called him after his last class ended.
“Hey, Reid. You are done with class, right?” She asked.
“Yes...What’s going on?” Spencer said, packing up his things from his desk. Usually, Emily wouldn’t call him while he was on a sabbatical. Unless it was for some team activity or some dinners at Rossi’s that they plan at the last minute.
“There’s this case and I know you are on sabbatical but we need your help,” Emily stated, trying to convey security. But her voice faltered at the end. This case had to be extra bad for Emily to call him and for her voice to be like that.
“How fast can you get here?” She added. Spencer could hear Luke in the back talking. Spencer walked out of his classroom and started jogging to his car.
“I am on my way.” Spencer said and hung up.
Spencer has only seen the BAU in a total mess only a handful of times. And today was one of them. Penelope was running to Emily’s office, where JJ and Emily were talking. All of them looked stressed. Rossi and Tara were talking to some agents. Rossi looked tired. The older man noticed the young doctor’s presence and called him over.
“That’s all agents. Wait for further instructions.” Tara concluded, and the agents went to their places. She let out a sigh of frustration.
“Oh, Reid. Thank God you are here. Come on let’s get you up to speed, kid” Rossi exclaimed, signaling to the younger man to follow him.
“For the past 2 weeks, we’ve been investigating a string of murder-suicides all over Virginia and Maryland.” Matt started. Spencer looked at all the pictures of the crime scene.
“10 men killed themselves. 5 of them were family men, and they killed their entire family before killing themselves.” JJ explained, her gaze was stuck on the photos of the families. They were happy and looked like normal, wealthy families.
“And there are no signs of foul play?” Spencer questioned.
“None, boy-wonder. But this is the weird part, none of these men had suicidal tendencies before their deaths. In fact, they were living the life. They were rich beyond all definitions of the word. They had several houses in different parts of the world and traveled to them a lot. They woke up one day and chose violence. Hell, Mark Holland, the 3rd victim, had plane tickets to Dubai.” Penelope answered. Spencer gave her a confused look. It seemed strange but nothing that the team couldn’t handle without his help. They’ve done this multiple times. Why was he called in?
Emily looked at the doctor, noticing the confusion in his face.
“These men have no connection except being rich, privilege, and white. But their paths have never intersected. M.O is different because every suicide wasn’t carried out the same. There’s no suspicious phone calls or messages. There’s no threatening emails from one sender. There’s nothing. Only the victimology.” Matt continued.
“It’s like the puzzle from hell because everything is missing.”Penelope snorted.
“We’ve been 2 weeks on this, and we only have one lead. The fiancé of the last victim overheard him murmuring a name for days. Y/N Y/L/N. Luke is bringing her to the interrogation room.” Rossi said, looking directly at the doctor. The rest of the team turned their attention to him. There was a silence in the room. It was uncomfortable, so much that Spencer shifted in his chair.
“Reid, we need a fresh set of eyes with this woman and this case. We’ve been too invested with no rest.” Emily finally explained. Spencer just nodded and grabbed the case files and headed to the interrogation room.
As if it were a joke, Spencer saw her again. Being dragged by Luke into the interrogation room. Spencer opened the files and saw the name Y/N Y/L/N and the picture. The same woman he has been seeing everywhere was the only lead in this impossible case.
“She hasn’t said anything?” Tara asked Spencer and Luke. Y/N was staring at the glass, bored. But for the past 30 minutes, she has been silent. Not even looking at the photographs of the crime scene that were around her.
“No. I’m gonna talk with her now, I think she has had enough time to think.” Luke said. Tara nodded and left the room. Something in the back of Spencer’s mind was telling him that she wasn’t going to budge.
“Hello, ma’am. My name is SSA Luke Alvez.” She huffed and crossed her arms. Luke smiled at her, trying to see if the nice guy approach would help.
“Do you know why you are here?”  Y/N rolled her eyes. Maybe not.
“Probably to waste taxpayer money.” She retorted. Luke let out a soft chuckle but took out the photos that were in the files.
“Do you recognize any of these men?” Luke asked. Y/N glanced at the pictures. She looked bored still but there was no sign of recognition.
“So you want to waste taxpayer money.” She laughed. “No, I don’t know who any of them are. Now can I please go?”
“Do you know this man?” Luke asked, pulling out the picture of the last victim. She rolled her eyes again and leaned back in her chair.
“If you are gonna keep showing me pictures of men I don’t know, at least give me some water or something.” She joked. Her body language hasn’t changed. If she had anything to do with these murders, she was a great liar.
“How about a hint? His name was Nicholas Mclain.” Y/N stiffened. Her gaze was stuck to the door, similar to the way it was at the café.
She recognized the name but not the face? Weird. Spencer thought
Suddenly, Tara ran into the interview room. Spencer couldn’t stop her, so he entered the room with her.
“There’s been another suicide,” Tara announced, out of breath. Luke stood up and looked at Y/N, whose eyes were trained on Spencer.
This case wasn’t going to be easy.

warning(s): mentions of nsfw content (18+), mentions of outing/homophobia.
note: this is a revised & official version of "CORE4’s relationships with other idols," please refer to this current one! this includes exes, enemies, hookups, flings, fallouts, partners (and more) both from the past and present. also, i recall seeing this somewhere and i can’t remember who made the format so if it’s you then please let me know and i’ll give you credits <3 /gen
taglist: @skzfairies @enhycloud @m00niesk7 [send me a request in my asks to join!]
Tumblr media
LEE SAKURA
VERNON / SEVENTEEN
this relationship is all over the place. from previously being extremely close friends to a tightly-knit trio that also included eunwoo, sakura and vernon have known each other for a long time & were both one of the closest friends they’ve ever had who weren’t in their group lineups. this changed after one kissed the other, only to discover it was an unrequited love… and pure heartbreak. the only people who found out are eunwoo and seungkwan, which was purely by accident.
— there was no closure on either ends, and there won’t be until someone cracks and tries to get the other to talk out what happened & attempt to save their friendship.
— this could develop into a romantic relationship in the future if they both come to a resolution.
— but then again… it all depends on when or if this closure even happens.
YUNHO / ATEEZ
from the moment they met, they were constantly pining over each other. it very well could turn into a romantic relationship, and a very strong one too. there’s a potential long-lasting relationship between them, but when sakura’s mental health declines in 2019, it’s up to them to decide if a relationship is something they want to invest in & test their strength. yunho is a great potential partner for sakura, but time will only tell.
— everyone (and by this i mean CORE4 and ATEEZ) constantly comments about how perfect they’d be if they got together.
— sakura holds back because she thinks yunho deserves someone better, but he wants her to see that she’s the one he wants.
— this relationship develops after her breakup with chuu & is tangled between the fallout with vernon — which is the reason for sakura’s insecurities being a roadblock in their chances of happening.
CHUU / LOONA
previously in a romantic relationship together, all ties were cut after chuu broke up with sakura. chuu wasn’t bitter but sakura was, and could not let go for a long time, and eventually the bitterness turned into numerous insecurities developing & telling herself that she hates chuu for breaking her heart, but in reality she’s actually thankful for the lessons she learned from it & her.
— there is no chance or possibility of this relationship being salvaged or saved in any way, these two are practically strangers & will certainly act like they share no history if they cross paths at work.
— there’s actually an unspoken gratefulness for what they used to have, the heartbreak was terrible on both ends but it shaped them into the people they now are today.
Tumblr media
KIM EUNWOO
KI YEON / NON-IDOL
eunwoo’s first same-sex & serious relationship was with a childhood friend of his. eunwoo genuinely thought that him and yeon would last, but everything ended when someone found out about the relationship and outed eunwoo to his parents — who ended up disowning him in his teenage years. this took a heavy toll on eunwoo, and creates an urge to protect his partner(s) in the future to ensure they don’t experience what both him & yeon went through.
SEONGHWA / ATEEZ
despite having many connections with other members of their respective groups they never actually got to know each other until 2021. this relationship came to life during kingdom, and it eventually developed into them gaining romantic feelings at a very fast pace, and then it turned into a relationship. this relationship could be untouchable and serious, both bringing out the best of each other… or it could crash and burn terribly.
— eunwoo is very private about most of his relationships with those outside of his group, he’s not that into hookups or flings of any manner, and if he’s going to date it needs to be a serious relationship both ways (hence why his dating history is so short) but he lets himself fall into this relationship with seonghwa at a different pace than what he’s ultimately used to.
Tumblr media
PARK HYEWON
JACKSON / GOT7
hyewon secretly dated jackson (who was also apart of her friend group at JYP) for a while as trainees and where they never actually got caught, as months passed by they realized they really weren’t a going to last while being so young and mutually agreed to break up. they’re both still very good friends and will often look back on their past with fondness… despite having a special place in their hearts for each other, both idols actively & publicly show their support to their respective groups as well.
WONWOO / SEVENTEEN
these two were great friends for a long time, they met through having unique voices amongst kpop rappers & it developed into feelings that even went as far as becoming lovesick. after everything that happens between vernon and sakura, they both drift for the sake of their younger members & to prevent drama… but moving on can be harder than it sounds.
JOSHUA / SEVENTEEN
they were nothing but acquaintances until eunwoo and seungkwan had failed to get vernon & sakura to talk things out in 2018, and because both maknaes found out about the plan they somehow convinced their older members to go for them instead to avoid confrontation (all thanks to eunwoo not paying attention). regardless, both are absolutely whipped from the moment they finally get to interact with each other on a more personal level. joshua makes a move by asking hyewon out on a date that same day… at least something good eventually came from eunkwan’s failed plan, right?
— they seem like polar opposites at the very beginning & at first glance, but this turns into the discovery that they’re more alike than they think… so it strangely works out.
— this is hyewon’s way of secretly trying to let go of her past feelings for wonwoo.
Tumblr media
KIM JAEHYUN
CHUNGHA / SOLOIST
much like eunwoo, jaehyun is very private about his romantic relationships, especially because he’s the leader… so he feels like it’s important to maintain a clean image for his group. but, jaehyun ends up engaging in a relationship with chungha before both of them even debut (for chungha, as a soloist) and broke things off before that because they didn’t want their relationships to impact their work ethic… only to get back together some time in the future. the next time where they got back together is one that originally started out as a hookup, and they try to keep their endeavors a secret, but both gained feelings from the very start.

Chapter 2 of The Hunt
Pairing: Din Djarin x fem!reader
Word Count: 6.2k
Rating: Mature
Warnings: mentions of death and trauma | very brief mention of blood | brief description of a panic attack | still a lot of hurt and just a little bit of comfort | misunderstandings | mild to moderate language | but maybe there’s also a ..... soft scene ...... | Din’s hands
Notes: First, let me start with saying that at this point taking a bullet for Dani @javierpcna doesn’t feel like it would be enough. She literally drops everything whenever I send her a new or revised chapter to look over and i cannot thank her enough! I kinda surprised myself with how quickly I finished this chapter, but that’s also thanks to Dani because the highlight of my day is sending her small snippets of what I’ve written and having her reply with “?????”. I also want to thank all of you who read the first chapter and left comments and sent messages, it means the world to me! I was so nervous about sharing this with you all, but I’m so glad I did. And finally, let me end this with saying happy birthday, Chrisann @darksber!!! I hope you have a fun birthday and I hope you enjoy the second chapter as much as you enjoyed the first one.

The snow comes over night. The cold, clean smell is the first thing your mind registers, even before it has time to make you feel confused about the strange bedsheets wrapped around you. And then you remember.
The screams.
The blaster shots
The fire, the blazing heat engulfing you, burning your skin.
Those men on their speeder bikes, laughing, looting, taking whatever the fuck they want.
And you, unable to stop them.
The feeling of cold, all-consuming despair makes a shiver run down your spine, makes you curl up in a tight ball beneath your blanket and shake so violently it makes you feel sick. Then you cry, and with the tears comes the heat until you’re so hot you feel sweat collect at the nape of your neck and run down your back in icy beads. After yesterday, you hadn’t expected there to be any tears left, but there are, so many, and they don’t stop, they seem to be endless, like a river flowing, rushing, tumbling over rocks and down a precipice, drowning everything in its way.
You hate those men, you loathe them, you want them dead, torn apart by wild animals, you want them dead after they beg you for their miserable lives, you want them dead and forgotten. That anger and that lust for revenge that seem to take up every cell and atom in your body are what finally helps you to stop crying. They don’t help you to calm yourself – you are anything but calm – but they help you to focus your rage on one goal: kill them all.
Because with the memories of the pain and the despair and the utter helplessness you felt yesterday (and still feel today) comes the memory of him. The Mandalorian. And remembering him means remembering the hope you felt when he offered his services, when he pledged himself to your cause. Shit. You shake your head. He did no such thing. He accepted a job. He only cares about the money, he doesn’t care about the cause. Yes, he will help you achieve your goal, but he’s emotionally detached from it. And you need to remember that. You need to remember it for your own sake because as soon as you assume anything else, it’ll get messy.
And he terrifies you. He terrifies you so much, especially in the light of day. Because the morning sun makes him feel real, solid, and so much more dangerous. And you have a feeling you shouldn’t keep him waiting.
You finally sit up and roll your neck and shoulders to relieve the pain the previous day’s labors have left behind. You couldn’t defend yourself against the Mandalorian, even if the muscles in your body weren’t screaming with pain. You don’t know what’s wrong with you. You don’t know why you would trust a complete stranger like that after everything that has happened to you, why you would trust a complete stranger who could snap your neck like a dry twig. Being around him feels like being constantly held at gunpoint. One wrong move and you’re dead.
But you need him.
Maker, you need him.
You get out of bed and stretch, then run your hand over your face to dry it off. There is a bowl of water on a small table next to the bed. You have to break the thin layer of ice that has formed on the surface, and when you splash it on your face, it is freezing, but at least it makes your burning cheeks feel numb and it eases the stinging in your eyes. You know you look a mess, but you don’t care. You get dressed in your soot-blackened clothes and then leave the small room. You have no idea if you’ll ever sleep in a bed again.
***
The morning air is icy cold. Two suns have risen, but the third one still hides behind the trees. The air is foggy, misty, and clouds of smoke pass you by. The settlement is already busy. In a shop next to the inn, a man heckles with the vendor in a raised voice. Two farmers lead a small herd of tauntauns down the street, while everyone tries to get out of their way. In the distance, a child is crying. It smells like fire and snow and life. You hate it.
The everyday noises are overwhelming to you; the melody of a hammer hitting metal in a nearby forge makes your skull vibrate, the voices of people talking makes you want to cover your ears with your hands and yell at them to shut up, the reverberations of the tauntauns’ claws against the frozen ground makes you want to take cover somewhere and hide until nightfall.
But you don’t run or hide or even just turn around to take a breath. Instead, you focus your attention on the Mandalorian.
He is waiting for you outside the inn. A thin layer of snow has collected on his shoulders, a sign he’s been standing motionless for a while. Even though the morning sunlight is pale and makes everything look hazy, you see him clearly. So clearly that you have to squint your eyes when you look at him. His beskar armor glistens from the sunlight it reflects, so much that the people on the street turn their heads to look at him. The wisps of smoke rushing past shroud him, but it’s not enough to dim the dancing shimmers. He carries a long staff strapped to his back, a kind of spear you’re pretty sure he didn’t have with him the previous night at the inn. And his face is hidden behind the helmet again, which probably shouldn’t surprise you, but it does. All of this just makes him look wrong. He looks so out of place standing in the middle of this dirt-poor settlement it makes you want to pretend you don’t have anything to do with him.
So you focus on what’s behind him. In one hand, he holds the reins of three orbaks, in the other a small bundle. He presses it against his chest like he’s holding a small child, not a lifeless piece of cloth. The orbaks are big, wooly beasts, dark grey in color, with two long, dangerously pointy tusks hanging from their mouths. Two of them have saddles strapped to their backs, the third one is laden with crates, saddle bags, even two long guns. The more you look at it, the more weapons you spot. What does one man need so many for? So much baggage will just slow you down. The bandits already have a day’s head start and travelling on heavily loaded orbaks will give them even more of an advantage. But this is probably the best the Mandalorian could do – the settlement is so poor, not even merchants sell speeder bikes – who would be able to afford them?
You shudder and wrap your arms around yourself, painfully aware that the fire destroyed everything except for the clothes you’re wearing. But they’re not enough to protect you from the bitter cold. You can see your breath hovering in a pale cloud in front of your face when you exhale slowly, you can feel the snowflakes on your bare lower arms as you walk toward the Mandalorian. You have no idea how he can stand there like the cold is nothing to him. Beskar doesn’t protect against low temperatures. To you, this is just further proof of how much he’s not human.
“Here,” he says, as you stop in front of him, holding the bundle out to you.
“What’s this?” you ask with a small nod at him, the bundle, and the orbaks. You don’t take it.
The Mandalorian looks behind him, then back at you. “Supplies,” he says.
You take the bundle from him and untie the chord that’s tightly wound around it. Folding back the thin cloth, you unwrap a long, dark brown leather cloak with fur linings and a thick, woolen scarf. The scarf looks itchy but feels very soft against your skin and the coat lies heavy in your arms, like a dead animal. The sight of these clothes leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, and you don’t move to put them on. Instead, you stand there, pressing the unwrapped bundle against your chest, and look at the Mandalorian with raised eyebrows.
“What’s this?” you repeat.
He doesn’t reply, just nods and makes a gesture with his now empty hand, motioning you to hurry up.
You don’t. You just look at him, shivering more and more with each passing second. You’re not sure if it’s from the cold or from the anger you’ve been feeling since yesterday, since waking up this morning, since unwrapping the bundle; everything is stoking up the fire, feeding your flaming rage
“Listen,” you start. You try not to let your feelings get the better of you, but it’s impossible. You don’t quite know yourself why this small gesture enrages you as it does, you just know you need to set some boundaries right now. “I don’t need your pity,” you continue. “I don’t need you to look out for me. I can take care of myself.”
The Mandalorian huffs. “This isn’t a gift,” he says, his voice completely level. “I’m paying for it with your money. I’m not forcing you to wear it, but if you go on the journey like that,” he nods at you, “you’ll freeze. You’re no use to me dead.”
You feel heat rush to your face and settle in your cheeks. Without another word you put on the coat and tie the scarf around your neck. The coat rests heavy on your shoulders, weighing you down. It’s a size too big, but snug, and you stop shivering immediately. You run your left hand along the right sleeve under the pretense of fixing it, but you just want to feel the material under your fingers. It’s softer than it looks, which just serves to make you feel embarrassed and … stupid.
You feel stupid, so, so stupid. Did you really expect him to make you a gift? To look out for you? To care for you? You hired him to do a job and he’s just making sure you stay alive long enough to pay him. Much like the owner of a racing stable would do with his fathier. You scold yourself for having misread the situation. You blame it on the exhaustion you still feel, on the trauma you lived through, on the need for human connection you had no idea you even felt. There is no way to come out of this situation without feeling like a fool, so you just decide to ignore it. After all, it’s best if you just forgot about the whole thing. All you need to do in future is to be more careful around him so you don’t misinterpret his intentions again.
“Supplies?” you ask to distract yourself.
You wish you could see his face when he says, “Were you just going to follow them on foot with no food or weapons?” Because it doesn’t sound as if he’s mocking you, even though he should be. Hell, you should be mocking yourself. But he just sounds genuinely curious, as if this is a discussion about a topic you’re both not emotionally invested in, not a question of life and death.
“No,” you answer slowly, then look away. You have to admit you hadn’t thought about it yet, you were too focused on the idea of hunting those men down that you didn’t even consider you needed tools, supplies, food, and a means of transportation. “Thank you,” you add.
The Mandalorian gives you a curt nod, accepting your words of gratitude. You’re glad he doesn’t press the subject, any subject really.
Without him, you would have been dead within a day.
***
It is still snowing when you and the Mandalorian leave the settlement behind. As you begin your journey into the unknown, tiny snowflakes settle in the fur of your orbak, making it appear white instead of dark grey. It blends in perfectly with your surroundings, where everything is light shades of blue, grey, and brown. And white, so much white. You squint your eyes and yet the light still stings to the point you tear up. You envy the Mandalorian his tinted visor and you wish you had something similar to protect yourself. Alvorine’s three suns hang low, their pale blue light filtered through hazy clouds. Everything you see is blurred and too bright to look at directly – it makes you feel vulnerable and exposed. Even as you enter the cover of the trees, their bare branches do little to help keep out the light and the snow and so you lower your eyes to your reddened hands holding your orbak’s reins as you trust the Mandalorian to lead the way.
The air is cold this morning, so cold you tie your new scarf over your mouth and nose and still feel it sting in your throat. Your face, still raw from crying, stings too. Your hands are frozen shut around the reins and you can’t feel your fingers. When you try to move them, the action is painfully slow. You shiver despite the heavy coat on your shoulders as you sit hunched over to give the cold air less opportunity to cover your body with icy touches. You would never admit to it out loud because you’ve already embarrassed yourself enough for one day, but the Mandalorian was right – you would have frozen to death within a few hours of leaving the shelter of the settlement.
You raise your head briefly to look at him riding ahead of you, but he is the brightest object in a 10-mile radius, you think, brighter than your orbak’s fur or the snow-covered ground. Back in the settlement, you already noticed how the suns’ light reflects off his polished beskar armor, but out here in the forest with nothing around to distract your gaze, he is like a homing beacon, like a bright, blazing fire lit in complete darkness. This brazen display makes you shiver; he is on top of the food chain, too quick and powerful and deadly to hide his presence. He could be spotted from miles away by someone on a sentry tower and yet the person keeping watch wouldn’t stand a chance. The Mandalorian would catch them sooner or later, no matter how well they were trying to hide. Nothing can escape him, so there is no reason for him to hide his presence, to sneak from cover to cover like a thief in the night.
He frightens you.
What is also bearing down on you is the silence surrounding him, you and your orbaks. Yes, there is the sound of their hooves against the frozen ground, the swoosh of their fur every time they shake their heads, the soft thud whenever they brush up against a branch, making snow glide to the ground. But that’s it. That’s all you hear. The Mandalorian travels in complete silence. His armor doesn’t squeak or thump. You cannot hear the sound of his slow, steady breathing. Even his hands lie completely silently on the nape of his orbak’s neck, the reins resting against the worn leather of his gloves. And you envy him those gloves because the further you travel into the forest, the colder it gets, and the stiffer and more unresponsive your fingers get.
You cannot recall the last time you felt this uncomfortable. You wish there was something to distract you from – well – everything. Yes, you’re grateful the Mandalorian doesn’t ask you personal questions because you buried your old life beneath wet soil and dirt yesterday, and with it you buried any desire to share it with a complete stranger. He also doesn’t ask you about the men you’re hunting, and you feel like he doesn’t have to because he just knows. Maybe he talked to the people back at the settlement, maybe it’s the years of experience he’s had hunting people for a living or maybe it’s just instinct – he knows where he needs to be going, he knows what kind of equipment to bring along, and he knows what the best strategy is to catch his quarry.
You don’t know any of these things. And the more you stray from the bare minimum of human civilization and into the wilderness of Alvorine, the more you realize you wouldn’t stand a chance without the Mandalorian. You would’ve frozen to death if he hadn’t given you the coat. Or you would have starved, or died from exhaustion from trying to carry all your supplies yourself. You would have gotten lost and eaten alive by a wild beast. Or you would, by some miracle, have caught up with the men, but would’ve gotten killed by them because you didn’t bring a weapon. By the look of it, the Mandalorian brought enough for a small army. And the more you think about it, the more you are prepared to admit that you were never seriously planning on going after the bandits. You are prepared to admit you were just looking for a way out so you wouldn’t have to live with the pain. One or two rash decisions made from a place of hurt and despair, one or two unplanned steps can mean death on Alvorine. While wallowing in your revenge fantasies, you weren’t thinking about Brea – you were just thinking about yourself.
But somehow – and this time you’re convinced it’s because of his instincts – the Mandalorian offered you a chance at success, one you might not even have wanted. He listened to the people in that inn and decided helping you with your cause is the right job for him. You’ve never heard of a Mandalorian like that. You always assumed they were only interested in money or the thrill of chasing down the rich and the powerful, in letting them know that no amount of credits can keep them safe. But here he is, content with spending a week or more in the forests of Alvorine, hunting down base criminals for the ridiculous amount of 240 credits. It doesn’t add up. And you would ask him about it if he wasn’t an unapproachable, withdrawn man, covered in impenetrable armor. You would ask him if he didn’t terrify you so much.
You wish you could talk to him about … something, you just don’t know about what.
But he makes that decision for you. “Are you hungry?” he asks.
His voice cuts so unexpectedly through the silence that you flinch. It somehow surprises you that he is real and not just a concept you’ve made up in your mind, and idea to help you live out your fantasies of revenge and vengeance.
When you don’t answer, he turns his head to look at you. You squint when you return his gaze, trying to make up your mind whether you are hungry or not (something that feels impossible when all you are is terribly, terribly cold), but then he pulls on the reins of his orbak and brings it to a halt in the middle of the path. He glides down from the animal in one swift movement; a small cloud of freshly fallen snow rises up when his feet hit the ground but there is still no sound and this is starting to unnerve you. It takes him a few steps until he’s next to you, the top of his head reaching your shoulder, even though you’re still mounted high on your orbak, and then he says in a rough, almost unkind tone of voice, “I asked you a question”.
And you remember the deal, you remember having agreed to doing as he tells you. It’s just, you don’t have an answer for him. So you just shrug.
He grabs the rein of your orbak and you finally – finally! – hear his movements make a sound, a low creak as the leather of his glove brushes against the leather of the bridle. The orbak shakes its shaggy head but he doesn’t flinch. His visor is directed at you and you know he expects an answer from you. He’s growing impatient, you can tell from the way his shoulders tense as he lets his gaze wander over your body.
“You’re hypothermic,” he observes, and as the words leave his mouth, so does the air you’ve been holding in and you start shaking uncontrollably.
Now that he’s pointed it out, there is no denying it. You’re cold, so, so cold, frozen and raw, you can’t feel your own lips, your nose, your cheeks. Your fingers are lifeless lumps against the coarse fur of your orbak. If the animal would decide to bolt at this very moment, you wouldn’t be able to hold it back. You’re not even sure you could climb down from the beast right now. Of all the deadly dangers of Alvorine it’s the cold that has finally gotten to you. It’s laughable, and you would laugh, if you could feel your face.
“Can you dismount?” he asks you then.
This is a question you can answer. “I think so,” you say, even though you know you can’t. Your legs are like two solid bricks of ice, too stiff to be moved.
“Do it then,” he says, and it sounds so much like a challenge that you’re determined to show him you can do it.
He doesn’t watch your pathetic display though. He lets go of the rein and walks to the third orbak that is carrying most of your supplies. You’re grateful for that because as soon as you try to dismount, you feel your body tense even more until you glide down from the orbak with a disgraceful plop and land in the soft snow with a force that knocks the air from your lungs. The sounds you make draw the attention of the Mandalorian back to you, but he doesn’t rush to your side to offer you help. Instead, he turns his attention back to the task at hand, looking through one of the bags strapped to the pack animal. You’re convinced he rolls his eyes under the cover of the helmet.
You try to get up, and you manage after two fruitless attempts. Your legs are shaking, but at least they’re supporting your weight. Walking on them is another topic you’re not prepared to cover yet. And then you feel it again, that hot sting of embarrassment you felt this morning, trying to make itself known by speeding up your heart rate and adding a feeling of nausea to your general discomfort. You push it down without batting an eyelash. There is no reason to feel like this, especially if you compare yourself to the Mandalorian. Not everyone can be a ruthless killing machine, immune to environmental influences.
Then he’s back by your side, and with a gruff, “Hold this,” he pushes a heating pad into your hands. You’re not sure at first if it’s switched on because you don’t feel anything, but when you move it around in your hands looking for the on button you notice it’s cranked up to the highest setting.
“You need to tell me when you’re cold,” the Mandalorian continues in the same gruff tone of voice, while he unscrews a flask.
Once it’s opened, he pushes it into your hand with such force you stumble backwards. Your whole body tenses at the contact and you realize you’re completely alone with him. There is not another living soul around for miles except for the three animals next to you, and they won’t come to your aid if he suddenly decides to kill you. And he could. He is so strong; you had no idea how strong until he pushed you back like that with a motion that didn’t seem to take any effort at all. And with another effortless motion, he could close a hand around your neck and squeeze until there is no air left in your body. You wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Drink,” he orders.
You do. It’s a hot liquid – tea, you think – but with a bitter taste to it. It warms you up instantly, much quicker than the heating pad does. You still can’t feel your fingers.
“Just tell me next time,” he repeats. “Losing a finger to hypothermia is a nasty business.”
And now you do feel embarrassed again. You’re a burden, you’re slowing him down. You already lost a quarter of an hour because you can’t handle a bit of cold. It’s not surprising he usually works alone. No one is able to keep up with him, least of all you in your weakened, exhausted state.
But you can’t turn back. You refuse to give up so easily.
You nod to show him you’ve understood his instructions. Then you let your gaze wander around, looking for something to distract you. You can feel heat rising to your cheeks, and it has nothing to do with the warm drink or the heating pad. You know it doesn’t because you’re still shivering. But you’re not going to apologize to him. For some reason, you feel like he would just brush it off, act like it’s no big deal. But it is to you, and you wouldn’t be able to bear him acting nonchalantly. The other possible response to an apology from you would be him trying to comfort you and you definitely. don’t. want. that. The mere thought makes your heart beat so rapidly it feels like it’s going to explode any second. The mere thought of one of his hands resting on your shoulder in a comforting gesture makes you want to run. You don’t want him to care for you because it’s entirely at odds with his character, his whole being. He is here to hunt and kill, not to hold and comfort. And this is what you need right now – a killer, not a caretaker.
You take a few steps, walk past him toward a fallen tree to calm your nerves. The deep breaths of cold air you take make you cough, but he doesn’t even flinch. Good. You’re usually not like this, you’re usually not someone who can’t take care of themselves. After all, you’ve lived on Alvorine your entire life, you know how harsh the winters can be and how dangerous the cold is. But yesterday’s events broke something in you, and the realization that you might never recover from it begins to dawn on you, take hold of you with a grip icier than the snow clinging to your worn-out boots. The weight of what happened to you slams into you with full force and you have to lean against a tree, its rough bark scraping uncomfortably against your cold, bare hand.
And then you see it – the bloodstain. One single, impossibly small, impossibly red bloodstain on the virgin-white snow. And everything stops.
You lurch forward and fall to your knees to examine it more closely. Yes, it’s definitely blood. You raise your head to look around, but you can’t spot anything out of the ordinary, just trees and snow and your own footprints. Your breath comes in short, labored bursts, and you suddenly don’t feel cold anymore. In fact, you don’t feel anything at all.
“What is it?”
The Mandalorian is there, crouching by your side. You point to the small, red dot, and he raises his hand to touch his helmet. His body grows rigid as he examines it, all the while not moving an inch. You don’t want to hear his verdict, don’t want to hear the conclusion he’s come to. That bloodstain stirs something inside you, a panic with such deep roots you feel it taking over your entire body, growing like weed, choking all other feelings, all life out of you.
Something in your body language must have given away this panic you feel, because suddenly the Mandalorian turns to you and says, “I need you to calm down.”
You nod, unable to speak. Then you turn your head away from him and throw up.
“Hey,” he says, and something in his voice catches your attention. It sounds almost … soft.
You turn back to him, running your hand over your mouth. “I’m sorry,” you apologize.
“I’m going to look around,” he tells you. Then he raises his hand as if to comfort you, but you flinch away from him. His hand hovers outstretched between the two of you for a brief moment before he lowers it again. “Just stay here. Try to eat something. I won’t be long.”
He pushes himself off the ground, towering over you. You stand up too, your legs shaking, but before you can embarrass yourself more by stumbling into him, he takes off in a slow-paced run and you stare after him until the trees swallow him up. And then you’re alone. Alone with three orbaks and your panicked mind.
It’s not Brea’s blood, you tell yourself.
But what if it is? a different voice asks.
It’s not. It snowed during the night, and we’re too far behind those bandits. It can’t be hers.
It can, you know it can. They could have left her here to die.
There would be more tracks.
Then why are you panicking? Why did you throw up?
You can’t argue with that. Instead, you sink to the ground again, bury your head in your hands, and scream. You scream so loudly that even though the sound comes out muffled, the orbaks still move their heads nervously. A few trees away, a flock of birds takes off, chittering in disapproval. You scream until your lungs begin to burn, until your throat stings, until you feel like you’ve just sprinted ten miles. Then you grow quiet.
***
When the Mandalorian returns, it’s almost dark. You’re not freezing anymore because you spent the last two hours or so pacing up and down the path through the undergrowth you’ve made earlier, your mind racing with scenarios of him not returning before nightfall. You fear the nights on Alvorine and you know you should have told him about the dangers these forests hold. Because how could he have known that it’s almost impossible to survive a night out in the wilderness? Almost because if anyone could do it, it would be him.
When he returns, the pauldron on his right shoulder is smeared with dirt and his chest is heaving with silent pants, but he’s alone. You’re simultaneously relieved and disappointed.
“We’ll make camp here for the night,” he decides without so much as a greeting.
You open your mouth to tell him how dangerous that would be but then close it again when you remember the nearest settlement is miles and miles away and you wouldn’t reach it in time before nightfall. You don’t have any other choice.
He sends you to collect some wood while he moves to tie up the orbaks. You scold yourself for not having done that earlier when you were waiting for him, but you had hoped it wouldn’t take him quite as long and he would be back sooner. As you move around, picking up the driest branches you can find, you glance over at him from time to time. He is lost in his own task, tying the reins to nearby tree trunks, patting one orbak’s neck, then scratching another one’s muzzle. They trust him, stand completely still in his presence while he circles them, examining them for any injuries or anything that might cause them discomfort.
Finally, curiosity gets the better of you. “What did you find?” you ask, as you break a big, dead branch into two parts.
“Nothing,” he replies in his brusque fashion you’re slowly getting used to. “A dead animal.”
You nod, then focus on the task at hand. Your small discovery and subsequent … breakdown? … panic attack? … you don’t know what to call it, has already cost you so much time. You could’ve covered twice the distance today if he hadn’t stopped here because of you. But … this isn’t a rescue mission, you keep forgetting about that. This is a quest for revenge, and those bandits will be there, no matter how long it will take you to find them. It doesn’t matter if it takes you two days or two months to reach them.
“Did you eat?” the Mandalorian asks you, interrupting your train of thought.
You shake your head and he sighs. Then he reaches into one of the saddle bags and pulls out a ration pack, tossing it to you. He proceeds to clear away the snow around the small pile of wood you’ve collected before doing something with his arm, so flames shoot out of the vambrace, igniting the stack. You can’t help but stare in fascination because you’ve never seen anything like it.
It doesn’t take him long to get a fire going. You grab one of the two bundled up, coarse blankets from the pack orbak and spread it on the ground next to the heat source, huddling up close for warmth and protection. You tear open the ration pack and begin to eat.
“I should’ve told you before, but it’s dangerous out here at night.” Your mouth full, you watch as the Mandalorian sits down opposite you, the fire between you. The warmth spreading through your body and your steadily filling stomach make you talkative. “There’s monsters in these woods.”
He chuckles softly but you’re sure it’s just your imagination. There is no way you could’ve heard a sound like that over the crackling fire. But before you can ask him about it, he raises his hand to remove the dirty pauldron from his shoulder, and you’re so distracted by that piece of steel being lifted off the body it usually protects that you stop thinking altogether for a moment. It’s stupid, you know that, but a part of you still thinks he might be a machine, and seeing that pauldron being removed from his shoulder feels almost forbidden, like you’re the audience to some ancient, sacred ritual you have no right to observe. You lower your gaze to the flickering flames.
“I’ll keep an eye out for those monsters,” he assures you, and you’re not sure if he meant for it to sound mockingly, but it doesn’t.
You still don’t think he fully believes you.
“Alvorine is a dangerous planet,” you tell him in a quiet tone of voice. “It might not seem like it compared to what you’re used to, but to us the dangers are very real.” You’re still not looking at him, but there is no point – you can’t see his face anyway.
“I believe you,” he says. “But fire is usually enough to keep the monsters at bay.”
As a response, you nod, even though you’re not sure he’s watching you. So you finally raise your head again to look at him. The pauldron is back on his shoulder, but his gaze is directed at the orbaks.
“I’m going to feed them,” he tells you. “They’re getting restless. Try to get some sleep.”
You nod again and stretch out on the cold, hard ground. Shivering, you pull your coat tighter around yourself. The fire is barely warm enough to keep your fingers and toes from falling off, and once it dies down, there won’t be anything keeping you from freezing to death. Briefly, you’re considering pulling the blanket out from beneath you to use it as a cover, but then you wouldn’t have anything to protect you from the cold ground. With a sigh, you close your eyes, trying to ignore the discomfort. Instead, you focus on the sounds around you, on the branches brushing against each other when a cold breeze tears at them, on the orbaks huffing impatiently and almost nervously, and on the crackling fire, the heat that makes a piece of wood snap in half ever so often. And then you hear another sound, footsteps, and your eyes snap open again.
The Mandalorian towers over you, and it’s the first time you were able to hear him approach. Instead of feeling proud of yourself, you bolt upright, adrenaline pumping through your veins. Whatever happens next, you know you don’t stand a chance against him. He slowly leans down, and you try to get away from him, but your muscles are frozen stiff and don’t cooperate. His arms move as if to grab you and a strangled cry escapes your throat.
But it’s just a blanket, just the other blanket, and he wraps it tightly around your shoulders. “Here,” he says with a low grunt. If he noticed your alarm, he doesn’t comment on it.
You look at his helmet reflecting the light of the dancing flames, and you wish you knew what was going on beneath it. Is he offended? Annoyed? Or maybe just as cold and exhausted as you?
“What about you?” you ask, grabbing the coarse material to hold it tightly against your body.
“I’m not cold,” he answers, standing up again. “Get some sleep. I’ll wake you before sunrise.”
You watch him walk back to the other side of the fire and settle down on the cold ground with just his cape to keep him warm. And for the first time since you met him, his stoic presence doesn’t fill you with dread or panic or trepidation – he just makes you feel calm.

“Jump!”
“What?! Are you insa-”
⚔︎.
It was probably a bad idea to be doing this. Actually, it was most definitely a bad idea to be doing this. But when has a ‘bad’ idea ever deterred the infamous Fred Weasley? In fact, the thought of anyone calling one of his ideas ‘bad’ just spelt encouragement in Fred’s mind.
You’d learnt that lesson two months into meeting the Weasley twins, and it’s only engrained itself in your mind further since. There’s never been a point to try to dissuade Fred, it’s best to just go along and hope the ride isn’t too bumpy along the way. After dating Fred, these bad ideas had expanded themselves to different categories- risky places to be intimate, weird ways to cheer you up with confessions of love, and dangerously stupid dates.
The last category was where today’s bad idea landed.
⚔︎.
Three days ago, Fred had the “most ingenious, marvellous, uniquely exciting date idea Hogwarts has ever seen!” He’d disappeared in the middle of lunch, dragging George along with him, mumbling to himself, “I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner!”, leaving you confused, sat alone in the Great Hall.
“Where are they going?”
Harry, Ron and Hermione popped up behind you, seating themselves down in the twins’ now deserted seats.
“I have absolutely no clue.”
⚔︎.
That’s how you found yourself here, two days later. A Saturday, you were all set to go on a Hogsmeade trip with some of your Ravenclaw friends when Fred ambushed you. Popping up out of a closet and scaring the living lights out of you, he dragged you behind him, laughing as you shouted at him.
“Freddie! What are you doing? I’m supposed to go meet Renee and the others right now!”
Regardless of the fact that Fred was making you miss plans you’d already made, you were beaming from ear to ear.
“Georgie’s already told ‘em you can’t make it. Now hurry up
This being your OWLs year, you’d hardly had the time to see Fred this term, busy studying while he went off doing whatever it was he did when you weren’t around. Being a year younger meant he had already studied everything you’d studied, and while he offered to help you a lot, you’d rather he go have fun than sit around revising old material with you.
Combined with the Triwizard Tournament and the fact that the twins saw this as the golden opportunity to sell products to customers other than Hogwarts student, you’d only had three dates in the almost three months since school had started.
“Where in the name of Merlin are you bringing me, Fred!”
“You’ll see soon enough darling!”
⚔︎.
Soon enough turned out to be ten minutes later, the two of you panting as you’d finally made it all the way across to the other side of the castle and up the stairs to the Astronomy Tower.
The sun was shining brightly down upon the two of you, the tall windows welcoming the late November winds into the room. A chest sat next to one of the ledges, Fred finally letting go of your hand for the first time in ten minutes, reaching down to open it.
He took a piece of cloth out, closing the chest before you could sneak a peek at the contents, tucking the wooden box under his arm.
“Is this the brilliant date idea you were talking about the other day? I’m not going to lie to you Freddie, cloth doesn’t really scream ingenious to me. In fact, it seems like you brought me up here to clean.”
Raising your eyebrows at the ginger, you gestured at the fabric in his hand as he laughed at you, stepping up onto the ledge.
“Fred? What’re you doing?!”
The boy turned towards you, holding out a hand.
“Come up here.”
Your eyes widened.
“No! Are you insane?”
Fred’s hand faltered a bit, arm relaxing against his body as he looked into your eyes.
“Do you trust me?”
Silent, you stepped up next to Fred, clinging onto his hip and arm, knees shaking slightly at the height you were at.
“I trust you with my life.”
Adjusting the chest under his arm, Fred pulled you into his embrace.
“That’s good to hear. Because it’s time.”
He looked down, dropping the piece of cloth, before tilting your head up to look at him, stepping one foot off the ledge and into the skies.
“Jump!”
“What?! Are you insa-”
You were cut off by screams erupting from your mouth as the ground disappeared below you- Fred pulling you with him, laughter bubbling from his chest.
“Oh my God, I’m going to die-”
You reached the ground a lot quicker than you’d thought possible, your eyes squeezed shut, bracing for the imminent death that would come.
Instead, you felt a weird, soft surface, almost like a water bed, rippling under you as you landed on your knees.
“Am I in heaven?”
Your eyes opened slowly, eyes meeting the clouds around you, only for a shadow to cover the sights surrounding you.
“No, but I think I am.”
A kiss landed on your lips as you fell back on the odd surface, Fred falling on top of you.
The kiss was short and sweet, but quickly forgotten as you remembered what had happened moments prior, hitting Fred on the chest as you took in your surroundings.
The surface you had landed on wasn’t a surface at all- in fact it was, a rug? It looked eerily similar to the cloth Fred had thrown off the tower earlier, only, about thirty times bigger, and flying.
You looked at Fred, confused. The tall ginger boy beamed back at you, gesturing grandly.
“Welcome, to your very own magic carpet ride!”
⚔︎.
After lecturing Fred on how incredibly dangerous the start of the date had been, you finally had the chance to process the reality of the date.
“Where are we going, then, on this magic carpet ride?”
The boy hummed, pulling out blankets and a pillow from the, now enlarged, chest, spreading them around the carpet that was hovering near the tip of the Astronomy Tower, awaiting further instruction from the two of you.
“Well first, I was thinking we could stop by Hogsmeade to get some snacks, maybe buy some of the Christmas gifts you wanted to go get today, then we’re flying off to explore Scotland! Well, the part of Scotland we’re in, anyways. Just for a few hours, then we’ll be back to watch the sunset.”
He looked at you for approval, which you granted with a wide smile.
“That sounds beautiful Fred.”
⚔︎.
Walking around Hogsmeade, Fred had shrunk the rug and tucked it into his pocket, the chest shrunk even smaller than it had been the first time you’d seen it.
“Alright, so I think you’ve gotten enough sugar quills to last you a lifetime. Where to next?”
Chewing on a sugar quill, you scrunched your nose in his direction, pulling him into the quaint little jewellery shop you liked to frequent.
The little old lady who owned the place was one you’d become acquainted with over the past five years, Mrs Kingston never minded that you rarely bought anything, understanding that most of her second-hand jewellery was still quite pricey for a student to afford.
Still, you tried your best to save up and buy the pieces you really liked. Recently, you’d been eyeing a necklace, a simple Celtic knot on a thin chain that shone brightly no matter how much light lit up the room. Mrs Kingston explained to you it was an old betrothal necklace, oft seen in pureblood families back in the Victorian era. It’s now seen worn by a lot of the heirs of these old families- in fact, you’d spotted Draco wearing an heirloom similar to it.
“Mrs Kingston!”
“Hello y/n, how are you?”
Fred nodded at the woman as he shuffled around the shop, looking in the display cabinets with vague interest whilst the two of you made small talk.
Your eyes wandered the familiar glass cabinet, landing on the soft velvet that was empty of the familiar Celtic knot, furrowed brows returning to meet Mrs Kingston's clouded eyes.
“The necklace!”
The woman nodded sadly, looking just as dejected as you felt.
“I'm sorry dearie. A boy came in a while ago to buy it. Might've been one of the ones you came with a few weeks back.”
Your head hung low, muttering out a soft 'oh' as she explained to you, nodding in response.
“It's okay Mrs Kingston. I'll see if there's something else I'd like to save up for instead. Thanks, see you next time!”
Thinking back to the last Hogsmeade trip when you'd come down to the shop, your heart lifted a bit, a smile returning to your face as you turned to face Fred.
“Alright, let's head to the bookstore.”
⚔︎.
The ginger's hand clutched yours tightly, the two of you cuddling under the thick blanket as you flew around mountains, pointing out animals, both magical and non-magical, that you'd seen around the place.
Fred looked at you quizzically. Since leaving Mrs Kingston's, you had seemingly forgotten the necklace. Even more, it seemed like you'd gotten happier since finding out someone had gotten the necklace. During the lunch you two had gotten at the Three Broomsticks, the both of you finding Madam Puddifoot's a bit nauseating, you were practically bouncing on your heels as you spoke to some of your friends about the upcoming Christmas celebrations.
“I thought you'd be more upset that the necklace is gone, I remember you talking about how much you liked it last time.”
You shrugged, a wider smile gracing your lips as you looked at him, nuzzling further into his chest.
“I love it! That's why I'm so happy Cedric got it for me. ”
Fred halted, pushing you away from him.
“I-, what! Why would Diggory be getting you a betrothal necklace?!”
You looked up at your boyfriend, furrowing your brows at his outburst.
“What! You know Ced's one of my best friends. Remember when we came to the shop a few weeks back? You, George and Lee were goofing around and then just bolted while I was telling Ced about the necklace. I guess he just came back to get it for me.”
Fred huffed, rolling his eyes as he heard you talk about Cedric, pulling away from you more.
“How could you be this blind!”
You looked at Fred, a bit hurt that he'd lost his temper at you for no reason.
“Why are you getting so worked up over this? It's not like he's proposing to me!”
The boy scoffed, throwing his hands up into the air.
“Well, it's clear that he'd do it without a thought! The boy's in love with you! That's the only reason why anyone would get you something that expensive!”
You laughed frigidly, shaking your head at how irrational your boyfriend was being, pushing the blanket off of you to move away from him.
“What, he can't just have gotten me the necklace because I'm a good friend? Merlin Fred, he's the only one who's actually been with me to go see the necklace, and is the only one who would logically know to get me the necklace.”
You turned to look him in the eye, your jaw clenching as he turned red.
“Besides, Cedric knows me best.”
Fred let out a frustrated 'ugh!', and grabbed the wooden chest that he'd charmed to stay in one corner, grumbling under his breath.
“You think Diggory's the one who knows you best? You think that he's the only one that could have gotten you the bloody necklace?”
A velvet box was brandished from somewhere deep in the chest, Fred propping it open to reveal a dazzling silver necklace, reflecting the afternoon sun into your eyes.
“The. I don't understand. But how?”
Fred snapped the box shut, moving to kneel in front of you.
“As I said just now, I know you best.”
He popped open the box again, this time moving to remove the necklace from the velvet, lifting it fully into the sunlight.
“I was listening when you were talking to Diggory, and even though I'd run away that day, I knew exactly what you wanted.”
He shuffled behind you, unclasping the necklace to bring it around your front.
“I said that he's in love with you, which I still think is true, by the way, and that's the reason why he would have possibly gotten it for you, is because I love you, and that's why I got it for you.”
The chain clipped around your neck, the cool metal contrasting your warm skin as Fred leaned down to press a kiss above the clasp, sending a shiver down your spine.
“Freddie, I had no idea.”
You spun around to face your boyfriend, pressing a deep kiss to his lips, hands landing on his neck to pull him impossibly closer to yourself.
“Clearly. I had this whole plan! All foiled by your cluelessness. I was going to wait until sunset, with the scenery all around us, then surprise you with it and ask you to be my date to the Yule Ball!”
You looked at Fred, your mouth falling open in shock.
“But you just had to bring up Cedric, and how he 'knows you best'. Maybe you should go with him to the Ball.”
You chuckled at the childishness of the Weasley boy in front of you, the pout framing his lips deepening as you laughed at him.
“Well then maybe you should go with Angie, I'm sure she'd be happy to have you.”
Fred gasped loudly, shocked at the audacity of you bringing up his old crush.
“Don't you even dare suggest that.”
⚔︎.
“How did you think of all this?”
The boy shrugged, opening the chest, to pull out a thermos. You were sat above the Black Lake, watching the setting sun on the horizon ahead, red bleeding into orange and blue.
“Honestly, I’m ashamed it took me so long. Remember this summer when you had me ‘round your place and we watched Aladdin with your parents?”
You nodded, fluffing the pillows to make yourself more comfortable, the setting sun casting shadows on the Weasley boy, making him look even more handsome than usual, if that was even possible.
“At that time, I’d already thought that the magic carpet seemed awfully similar to a broom. Then, that day at lunch some firstie was humming that one song they sang when flying the blasted thing, and I thought, blimey! Why didn’t I think to just recreate the bloody thing! So, here we are.”
While talking, Fred spread the thick blanket to cover more of you, pouring hot chocolate out of the thermos he’d brought into mugs that he’d gotten without you knowing, both shaped in little hearts.
“D’you, um, d’you like it?”
Handing the pink mug to you, a sheen of red descended on your boyfriend’s cheeks, not just from the cold, but also fear and embarrassment, scared you didn’t like the date he’d spent the last three days planning.
“I love it!”
You leaned forward, planting a soft kiss on Fred’s lips, leaving traces of cocoa on them.
“But I didn’t love the part where you made me think I was plunging sixty feet to my death!”
The boy groaned playfully, lying back onto the carpet with his head hanging over the edge.
“I know! I’m sorry! I just thought it’d be exciting! A nice surprise! Besides, did you really think I’d let my lovely little Y/N die? I need you around darling.”
You scoffed, sipping on the hot cocoa as you stared at the Astronomy Tower in the distance, your first and now, final destination of the day, a hand creeping towards Fred’s to hold it in a tight grip, unconsciously afraid he’d fall.
“I don’t know! Maybe this was your ultimate prank! Bring us both to heaven to fight God or something.”
Now it was Fred’s turn to scoff, sitting back up to shove his hands under the blanket, squeezing your hand in return.
“First off, if I ever fought God I’d need George there with me. I don’t think that just the two of us could take him. Secondly,”
Fred cupped your chin with his free hand, bringing you in for a deep kiss, catching you by surprise as you braced yourself on his shoulder with your free hand. His tongue teased your lower lip, making a moan slip out while his tongue entered your mouth. Exploring each other, your entangled hands fell apart- his coming to grasp your neck, bringing you closer to him, yours gripping his hip, drawing circles on the bone.
After what seemed like an hour, but also felt like seconds, the two of you fell apart, breathless as you panted, staring into each other’s eyes.
“I don’t think either of us are making it to heaven darling. Think we’re condemned to hell forever, you and I.”
You looked into his coffee coloured eyes, pupils dilated as he scanned your face, his favourite pastime, memorising every crevice and pore. Your hand found its way to the necklace sitting around your neck, fingering the knot that symbolised eternity in your hands.
“Well if I’m going to burn in hell for an eternity, then I’m glad I’ll be burning with you Freddie.”

Temptation (Taehyung)
Tumblr media
Ceo Au! Suggestive smut (he’s crouched under ur desk and :)) (smut will be in future chapters) Angst (later) 3181 Words Chapter 1.
“Good morning.” Taehyung simply greeted before disappearing into his office.
It was enough to get all the women in the lobby immediately shooting each other knowing glances because not only was Taehyung the company’s CEO, but he was a very handsome one at that too. His polite demeanour and respectful nature only contributed to his desirability. Due to everyone’s unanimous acknowledgement of Taehyung’s appeal, there seemed to always be some sort of competition for his attention. Whether it was to drop something off for him in his office or offer him leftover donuts, his deep voice thanking you followed by his infectious smile was all worth it. Taehyung being new to the company only made the competition over him more fierce. He had taken over the position from a now old and retired gentleman and because he had no idea what the personality of each individual in the office was truly like, it was all fair game.
She definitely would’ve been lying if she said she didn’t have some sort of crush on Taehyung but it was all physical and surface level. He was her boss after all and she only saw him for a few minutes each day. They’ve barely exchanged more than a handful of words to each other in the month of his takeover.
“Jesus...did you see his arms? They’re suffocating in that button up.” Jisoo, her colleague commented.
“You’re drooling,” she teased, “besides, you should be worrying about your meeting today and not about whether or not blood is circulating through his arms.”
Jisoo scoffed and pushed herself off of the reception desk.
“Don’t remind me,” Jisoo groaned, “it doesn’t help that Taehyung’s going to be sitting in for that meeting too. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get through anything without puking.”
The two of them continued to talk and catch each other up on what they did over the weekend before Jisoo eventually had to go back to her desk. She watched as her colleague walked away and felt a twinge of jealousy within herself. For someone like Jisoo to get nervous despite being pretty, charismatic and the office favourite was a slap to her self esteem. Jisoo also held a high position within the HR department while she was just a measly receptionist. She definitely wasn’t going to stay in this position forever but the job paid well and would suffice for now.
As the clock inched closer to everyone’s starting time, the lobby began clearing up as people went to their respected department. After a few minutes, she was left alone to man the front all by herself. She stared at the closed office doors surrounding her and felt another pang of envy in her heart knowing that people behind those doors were doing far more important work than her. Her days consisted of sorting through mail, sending emails, transferring calls and light house duties. She tried to convince herself that it wasn’t all bad because at least she could surf the internet whenever she wanted without anyone monitoring her. Her eyes traveled towards Taehyung’s door and she wondered how he was adjusting to everything before an email notification needed her attention.
With it being Monday and the meeting Jisoo was talking about earlier being held today, it was quite busy. She usually had an hour of free time before her lunch break but the emails had been nonstop. People kept revising their forms and asking her to print out multiple copies of the revised papers to the point where the printer just stopped working altogether for a scary moment. With it being so busy, she decided to stay at her desk for lunch today. She was buried so deep in her computer work that Taehyung’s presence had gone unnoticed. He needed a break from staring at his screen all day and decided to go explore the office. In the month that Taehyung transferred over, he had no time to go around introducing himself or making himself familiar with the space. His decision to finally become accustomed to his environment brought him in front of her desk. The unusually loud crinkling from the untouched candy jar she left out for everyone broke her focus. She looked up to see her boss struggling with how small the jar was.
“Do...do you need help?” she finally asked.
Up close, Taehyung’s visuals had her feeling shy and flustered like a high school girl sitting next to their crush. Taehyung seemed just as surprised to hear her voice as his movements came to a halt and he pulled his hand out of the candy jar sheepishly.
“Sorry,” he apologized while rubbing the back of his neck, “I realized I must’ve looked really stupid.”
She waved his doubts away and took the jar from him. She tried her very best to seem unfazed and collected but the red tint in her cheeks and her inability to stop smiling so wide probably gave her away.
“The um...” Taehyung cleared his throat before continuing, “the watermelon flavour please.”
After a few seconds of sifting through the numerous options, she found the one he wanted. Taehyung opened his hand and she almost laughed at how tiny the candy looked in his gigantic palm. Her amusement didn’t stop at his physicality but shifted towards his entire personality. When she first met Taehyung, she was beyond intimidated. She couldn’t look at him for too long without feeling like he was looking right through her. Taehyung carried himself with an air of confidence and always had an answer for everyone, as expected of a competent CEO. She wasn’t nervous around him because he was scary but because his presence was so large and full while she was so small compared to him. But having him stand before her enjoying a piece of watermelon flavoured candy with an innocent smile on his face was just so...unexpected.
“Is this your lunch break?” Taehyung asked noticing her untouched sandwich sitting beside her keyboard.
She looked where he was and let out a forced laugh at her pathetic set up.
“Yeah I didn’t have time to properly take a break today.” she explained.
The reason she was eating at her desk suddenly occurred to her and her eyes traveled over to her inbox which was now at double digits. With only an hour before the big meeting today, she was already behind despite only talking to Taehyung for five minutes.
“Sorry Taehyung I have to get back to work,” she sighed running a hand through her hair, “is there anything else I can do for you?” she asked looking at him for a quick second before going back to her monitor.
Taehyung watched as she worked and wondered if this was the kind of work culture he wanted to uphold. He didn’t like that she didn’t take a break and was going unnoticed for her extra work. Perhaps he’d talk to HR and accounting later to avoid situations like this from happening again. Taehyung drummed his fingers against his her desk and sucked his teeth.
“Nope, nothing else you can do for me!” he smiled, “Thank you for your hard work but please make sure to take a proper break next time. I’m going to the coffee room to take a breather myself.”
She looked up to thank him out of courtesy and he surprised her by thanking her once more and using her name. He grabbed a few more pieces of candy before going on his way.
“Hey Taehyung!” she called, leaning over her desk.
He turned his head with a raised brow.
“If you’re still going to the break room, it’s the other way.” she informed him.
Taehyung turned around on his heel and began walking hastily in the correct direction with bashful smile on his face.
“What an interesting guy.” she thought while laughing to herself.
________________________________________________
The hour leading up to the big meeting didn’t get any easier as her inbox continued to flood with people requesting numerous things from her. She was finally able to breathe when the meeting started and people stopped demanding her assistance. Jisoo had come up earlier asking for words of encouragement before Taehyung emerged from his office. She watched in awe at how effortless Jisoo made it look cracking jokes with Taehyung and drawing out deep belly laughs from him. She cringed at how awkward she must’ve been with Taehyung earlier and refused to look at him when he walked by; not that he would’ve noticed anyway as Jisoo had his full attention. She made an early new years resolution to be more like her follow coworker in the coming year.
Despite the craziness earlier, she was already bored browsing through the same pages for the past 40 minutes. The meeting seemed to be going well as no one left the boardroom to ask her to do anything. With her sanity hanging onto Pinterest boards, she welcomed the delivery man with a gigantic smile and lively greeting.
“Big one today.” the delivery man commented while slapping the stacks of boxes on his trolley.
She took a look around her desk to see if there was any available space to put the packages but to no avail.
“You can just leave them there.” she said and began rolling up her sleeves.
“You sure?” the man asked, “these are quite heavy.”
She reassured him by telling him that she deals with deliveries every Monday and that this was no different to prior ones. She bid the delivery man farewell as he disappeared through the elevator doors with the same concerned face that never left during their entire interaction.
"Finally something to do.” she thought and with that, began working on the boxes.
Taehyung struggled to keep his eyes open during the meeting. He opted to rest his chin on his hand and pretend to take notes when in reality, his eyes were closed and he was drawing random shapes in his notepad. From the moment he received emails outlining what the meeting entailed, he knew it meant absolutely nothing to him. He didn’t actually know why he agreed to be a part of it but he was definitely regretting his decision to do so. Taehyung had a long list of tasks to fulfill especially since he was only a month onboard this company and this meeting was wasting his time. Wanting to make a good impression on his employees, Taehyung tried really hard to pay attention but he simply could not trick himself into caring as the minutes ticked by. He racked his brain on ways to escape and took a deep breath before pursuing his liberation. Taehyung looked at his apple watch and feigned surprise at a non-existent message on it.
“Everyone, I apologize for leaving so suddenly but there is an issue I have to attend.” he announced while getting up from his seat.
He uttered a few more apologies before leaving the boardroom and closing the door. It wasn’t until he was out in the hallway by himself that he suddenly felt incredibly foolish over how easy it was to leave. He sat in that godforsaken room for almost an hour thinking of ways to flee and that was all it took. Pinching the bridge of his nose and inhaling a sharp breath, Taehyung made his way back to his office.
“Holy shit! What is in here?!” she groaned struggling to lift more boxes from within the delivery boxes.
In the span of an hour, she was still working on one of the four boxes delivered. Perhaps she should’ve listened to the delivery man earlier but her pride got in the way. It didn’t help that the skirt she was wearing today was a lot shorter than her usual choices but all her work clothes were currently in the wash as she simply could not be bothered to do laundry over the weekend. Every time she lifted something up, she had to immediately place the item somewhere so she could pull her skirt down or she’d accidentally flash the office.
She attempted to set one box down on her desk and winced when it slipped from her fingers and landed on the floor with a heavy thud. She waited a few seconds to see if anyone came out to figure out what the noise was and breathed a sigh of relief when the office remained undisturbed.
“Better than aimlessly scrolling through Instagram.” she thought before bending over to pick up anything that fell out.
“Do you need help?” a familiar voice called out.
She jumped in her shoes and proceeded to drop everything from her arms. She snapped her body up to see who it was and surprising her again for the second time today, Taehyung was standing in front of her desk with a curious look on his face.
“I’m so sorry I shouldn’t have snuck up on you like that,” he apologized profusely as he made his way behind her desk, “please let me help you!”
It took her a beat to register her appearance and she quickly pulled down her skirt that was riding up way too close to her crotch. She smoothed her hair before attempting to stop Taehyung from doing anything.
“No, no don’t worry!” she laughed as he held up the items out of her reach.
“If you want it then you have to grow a whole foot taller.” he teased.
“You have a meeting to go back to.” she reminded him to which he scrunched his face in disapproval.
Just as she was slowly convincing Taehyung to go back, his face turned from playfulness to dread when the boardroom door opened.
“Let me ask Taehyung to join the meeting again.” a colleague’s voice could be heard before their footsteps approached the lobby.
She was about to tell Taehyung that he was needed when he ducked under her already cramped desk and put a finger to his lips as his eyes pleaded for her to keep quiet. Before she could process what was happening, Jin, her coworker appeared.
“Hey! Is Taehyung around?” Jin asked as he marvelled at all the boxes spread out in the lobby.
She stood still trying to calm her nerves. On one hand, she was fighting against the biggest laughing fit of her life and on the other, Taehyung her boss, expected her to cover for him as he cowered under her desk.
“He is...” she glanced down at Taehyung who was now shaking his head and making a cutting motion with his hand, “I-I haven’t seen him actually! Is he not in the meeting?”
Jin cocked a brow and leaned over her desk trying to see what she was looking at.
“Is everything okay? You look like you just saw a ghost.” he laughed.
She forced a smile and shook her head, “Oh yeah I’m fine! My computer’s been acting up all day and it’s getting a little worrisome with everything going on.”
Taehyung was impressed by how quick she was on her feet and slowly breathed a sigh of relief until he heard Jin offer to come around and take a look at her computer for her. This whole situation was already absolutely ridiculous and humiliating until she sat down on her chair to click a few keys and feign relief that her computer was magically working again. The issue was no longer the fact that Taehyung was hiding from his employees but that he was contorted under her desk that was way too small for his large frame, now with her cunt inches away from his face.
“Well now that you’re here anyways, I was hoping you could help me with some paper work and scheduling.” Jin said.
“S-sure.” she managed to answer despite her throat drying up and the adrenaline slowly making its way through her veins.
She could feel every time Taehyung breathed because his exhales would land right against her inner thigh and when he sighed, she could feel it right against her sex. Her thong provided little to no protection against any sensation caused by him. She tried to clamp her thighs together but her knees would hit Taehyung’s face in the process causing her to open her legs again as a reflex and there was no more room for Taehyung to back up against.
“Are you okay?” Jin asked.
She could only nod as a response; she did not trust her voice to come out stable and natural. The battle she was fighting up there was mutually shared by Taehyung underneath. His brain was going a million miles a minute as he tried to figure out how to talk to her after this. How was he going to make this all alright and normal? He could offer her a raise and an extra week of paid vacation? Maybe he could fire her but he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if he did that. Taehyung was beating himself up for putting her in a situation like this and began to mentally prep for a lawsuit. While trying to figure out a solution, Taehyung forgot that he was just a man with a simple brain and another mental battle was underway as he tried very hard to avoid gazing somewhere he really shouldn’t. As she kept squirming, her skirt kept rising and Taehyung couldn’t help but steal a glance at the growing wetness appearing on her undergarment. The growing arousal within Taehyung’s pants made him feel more cramped and with his legs were beginning to fall asleep, he began to pray to any god out there for some sort of divine intervention.
“Fuck fuck fuck...oh my fucking god,” he chanted in his head, “Jin shut the fuck up already.”
A gasp escaping from her lips followed by her suddenly jolting startled Jin and he gave her an odd look. Taehyung had completely lost feeling in both of his feet and he fell over grabbing onto her thighs for support. His hands felt so warm against her skin and their sheer size grabbed a lot more area than anticipated. Taehyung fought back a groan when the bottom of her skirt had flipped over and her entire lower region was in full view.
“Hey Jin, is it okay if we do this over email? I’m suddenly not feeling so well.” she was able to muster out.
It didn’t take a doctor to know something was wrong from her complexion turning completely pale.
“Yeah I think you should go home for the rest of the day. You really don’t look well,” Jin acknowledged with furrowed brows, “I’ll just catch Taehyung up with the meeting myself.”
The minute she heard the boardroom doors close, she pushed her chair back so forcefully that it crashed into the wall behind her. She got up and immediately pulled her skirt down and made a beeline towards the washroom without saying a single word to Taehyung. Taehyung on the other hand stayed fixed under her desk with his eyes bulged and his mouth ajar. There was absolutely no positive outcome for what he had caused.

A Little Braver  - Chapter 3
Here we are with ch. 3
This one has some action and i hope it’s even remotely believable. it has been a hard one to write.
There is a bit of development for our two idiots.
And well... Rowan loves to fuss....
Enjoy.
------
It was the following morning, and Rowan was in the car with Lorcan on their way to the fire station. They had decided not to call. He had a feeling that Aelin would have refused a meeting with him out of spite.
He parked the car on the street as the previous day and when he noticed smoke he realised they were probably having another drill. Shit, he should have called. She was busy with the performance review as well.
“Is the building on fire?”
Rowan shook his head “they are training. The tower over there is used to run drills.”
They walked in the main yard and Rowan pulled Lorcan to the side in order not to distract the team.
The truck was in front of the tower and all the hoses were deployed and same for the ladder. One man, Nox if he remembered correctly was at the very top of it. Aedion looked in charge, Ansel was near the truck with a very nervous looking Luca and they both were in charge of the hoses and the water. The rest of the group was not there and Rowan assumed they were inside. She was inside.
“Where is your fierce Captain?”
“Inside.” Replied Rowan without removing his eyes from the scene in front of him. He looked up at the top of the ladder and felt sick. As a pilot he was used to altitudes but in a different way. And although the man at the top of it was fully harnessed he still felt queasy at the scene. Then his heart jumped when he noticed her. She appeared at the window with a dummy, a victim. She passed it to Nox on the ladder with an agility that impressed him, then she went over the window ledge and climbed down the ladder with swiftness. And he laughed. He had helped her climb off the small jet ladder not knowing that she was used to far worse. She kept surprising him. She jumped off the last two rungs of the ladder and ran to Aedion for probably an update. Her mask pulled on her head.
He heard some radio chatter but did not manage to catch the message but guessed it was not good as Aelin sprinted into the building. A moment later Aedion shouted an order and he saw both Ansel and Luca concentrate the flow of water to another point of the building.
“I think the wind has shifted.” Muttered Rowan clenching his fists in a nervous gesture. Something had gone wrong.
Ren ran out of the building and both Lysandra and Elide ran to him when they saw him collapse exhausted on his knees after dropping off his dummy. A moment later he stood again sending the paramedics away.
How long had they been at it?
He turned to Lorcan and noticed that the man was staring at Elide with interest.
A moment later Aelin reappeared with a dummy on her shoulders, she dropped it on the ground in front of Aedion. Ress and Brullo followed a soon after with two more dummies and he saw Brullo lifting six fingers to Aelin. They still had six dummies to save and there were already four on the ground. The three disappeared again and his terror came back.
It was and half an hour later when the ten dummies were finally all out and Ress and Brullo had carried the last one but no sign of Aelin. Rowan moved a step closer.
Aedion called her over the radio but the silence was killing him. At the third call Ress pulled back on his equipment and dashed back into the building ignoring Aedion’s orders to stand down. When he was younger he did something like that. His wingman had got stuck with a jet on his tail and could not shake the enemy off while chasing another plane. Rowan had ignored his CO’s order to stand down and clear his share of foes, and went to give help to his mate. He caught one hell of a reprimand for that escapade of his.
He snapped back to reality when he heard an explosion ripple through the building and the fire flashed stronger for an instant. Everyone shouted apart from Aedion. Rowan wandered if that was part of the exercise as well.
“That was savage,” commented Lorcan.
Finally two figures appeared from the smoke. A badly limping Aelin was leaning against Ress. His heart stopped.
Lysandra and Elide ran to her and the three helped her to the ambulance.
“Do they always have an ambulance or only when they do drills?” Asked Lorcan following the scene in fascination.
“I did some research and apparently each firehouse has a set of EMTs as well. All firefighters are trained in basic medical emergencies help but they cannot concentrate on the medical side while helping with the emergency so if the call requires medical assistance like a fire or an accident, they are followed by an ambulance.” Rowan pointed to the two women “the taller of the two is Lysandra. She is the paramedic in charge. She is the senior one and the one making the medical decisions. The other one is Elide her partner.”
His tension lifted a bit when he saw Aelin standing, she removed her heavy jacket and took the water bottle Lysandra offered her.
She looked exhausted, there was no way she would have time for him.
Her head snapped in his direction as if she felt his stare in her.
With a heavy limp she made her way to him and Lorcan.
“Captain, Commodore.” She said with tired voice.
“That was one scary drill.” Confessed Rowan staring at her. Her face was covered in soot and her blue eyes stood out like beacons. Gods, even covered in soot she could take his breath away.
“Were you worried about me?” Challenge in her tone. She was definitely still mad at him.
“The explosion…”
Aelin turned to look at the training tower, now completely extinguished.
“That was calculated. It was meant to happen after a certain amount of time. Only Aedion and I usually know about these things. They are meant to keep us on our toes. The drill today should have finished well before the explosion. But a few things did not go as planned. But that’s how things go in a real fire.”
“You should sit.” He told her. She had limped all the way to him.
“I am fine, I had worse. I don’t need coddling.” She looked at him “why are you two here, by the way? I don’t remember getting in touch with you.” Her tone was harsh.
“It’s my fault, captain. I asked captain Whitethorn to take me here. I wanted to talk about some of the ideas you sent me yesterday by email.”
“I had to do so. Captain Whitethorn seems to have misplaced the materials I gave him. Quite rude of him, after I spent an afternoon working on it.”
Lorcan looked at Rowan as if to say, what did you do to piss her off so much.
“I’ll make sure he doesn’t do that anymore.”
Aelin glared at the captain “take your CO to my office and wait for me. I need to clean up.” And she limped away without giving the two men any more attention.
Rowan walked Lorcan to her office and the man slapped his neck “what the heck did you do? The woman is fucking furious with you.”
Rowan sat down on the chair and ignored Lorcan.
“Do you know anything about the other EMT? Elide?”
Rowan’s head snapped in Lorcan’s direction at the comment “Are you kidding me?”
“She is cute.”
Rowan shook his head in disbelief.
“As if you don’t have the hots for the captain. You were nervous as hell while she was inside that inferno and only relaxed once she was out. And I have seen how you looked at her today. Have all the sex you want you two, just don’t fuck this up to satisfy your needs.”
Rowan stood and left the office. Once outside he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes. Lorcan was right. He had to keep it professional. No matter how he felt drawn to her. The project was far more important.
“Do you hate my office so much that you came outside for a nap?”
Rowan’s eyes snapped open. Aelin was in front of him. All clean and in her blue captain uniform. It was short sleeved and he noticed scars on her arms and other signs that clearly were burnt marks.
“Move your arse inside, sleeping beauty.”
Rowan peeled away from the wall and followed her inside and took back his place on the chair he had vacated.
“Sorry to keep you waiting Commodore. Had you phoned we could have arranged a convenient time. I don’t know if our esteemed captain had the good sense to tell you that we are due a performance review in three weeks and we are quite busy at the moment.”
“He did, but I was the one who had pushed. This visit was entirely my decision.”
“So I assume it’s important.”
Lorcan nodded “I have received a confirmation by my superiors that the works can go ahead. All of them.”
A huge smile appeared on Aelin’s face and Rowan almost melted at the sight.
Lorcan extracted a letter from inside his jacket “this is the budget I have been given for all the needs to be done.” He passed the letter to Aelin.
She took it and smiled again “It seems like you begged quickly and pretty well.”
“I just explained to them the gravity of the situation and of what happened. I might have threatened them to call the press and reveal the real reason behind the fire. That made them listen.” He leaned back in his chair with a smug expression “such a scandal might reach the news, and then the government. If then the government caught whiff of how badly its budget was spent, well, let’s say the airforce might find itself with a lower budget at the next revision. And in my position I need to learn to play the political game as well. And I am quite goos at it.”
“As long as it got us the authorisations we needed I have no qualms on how you used your powers.”
“I hope the captain mentioned that if we get called for deployment we will have to drop all training. That’s why I was going to suggest if we can prioritise my pilots. So we know that it’s done. The ground staff stays behind so there is no urgency there.”
“I can’t see any problems in that, sir. Will you be joining us as well?”
“I thought I would, if you don’t mind.”
In his seat Rowan stared at the interaction and could not believe that Lorcan was actually charming her. He was speechless.
“Well, captain,” said Lorcan standing up “the captain and I will leave you in peace to rest. I apologise again for coming unannounced, I just felt it was something that had to be told in person.”
“I agree.” She stood shakily and Rowan almost jumped forward to grab her but she used the table to steady herself. She extended her hand and Lorcan returned the handshake. She gave him a smile and ignored Rowan altogether.
The two men left. She was about to sit down again when Rowan rushed back in her office.
“I am sorry, okay? I was trying to make a joke and I clearly failed. Humour has never been my stronger point. I am sorry. I had no intention to offend you.” He paced back and forth nervously. Aelin leaned against the desk heavily and stared at him.
“You are fierce, and fearless and I am in awe.” He fully turned to her, facing her “I don’t think for a second that you are a brat or a menace.”
Aelin finally put him out of his misery and smiled at him. Rowan sighed in relief.
“You are forgiven, captain.”
Rowan moved closer to her, going around the desk and sitting just beside where she was leaning “I think Lorcan has his eyes set on Elide.”
Aelin’s head snapped so fast that she lost balance and landed against him. Rowan’s arm flew around her to hold her in place “Easy.”
Aelin winced and she noticed Rowan’s worried gaze on her.
“You should really rest. Or at least sit down.”
Aelin nodded and sat down “so, tell me everything.”
Rowan sat back on the desk just in front of her “during your drill he spent the whole time staring at her. And while we waited for you, he asked me if I knew anything about her and admitted that he found her cute.” Rowan stopped “coming from Lorcan it’s very high praise.”
Aelin leaned back on the chair “he might be her type to be honest, but I need to investigate.”
She took out her phone from her pocket “give me your mobile number, Whitethorn.
He rattled out his number and she saved it under Pain in my arse.
“Hey,” he complained at the name.
“Until I find a better nickname.”
“What about my name?”
She shook her head “take it or leave it.”
As a protest he took his phone and changed her name from Captain Aelin to brat and showed it to her.
“Now we are even.”
Aelin grabbed his phone and changed her name “this is better.”
“My Queen?” He asked “high opinion of yourself I see?”
She giggled and a rebel lock of hair came loose and he almost reached to place it behind her ear but stopped himself. Boundaries.
“I have a better one,” and took his phone back, typed something and showed it to her.
“Fireheart?”
“It’s perfect. You are a firefighter, when you are mad you are as scary as that fire out there today,” and he pointed at the tower in the yard “and you have a heart that burns with passion.”
Aelin stared at him incapable of saying anything.
“My mum used to call me like that.” She admitted “exactly for the last same reason you said. She said that even as a toddler I always had my ideas clear and I was always a little passionate brat about what I loved.” She felt tears sting her eyes but she took a deep breath and stopped them from spilling. She could not cry in front of him “No one ever called me that apart from her. Not even Aedion knew about the nickname.” She looked away from him for a moment.
“I can go back to My Queen if this makes you sad.”
Aelin reached for the hand leaning on his knee and gently grabbed his fingers “No, please. I would love you to call me like that.” And the tears eventually came and Rowan did the only thing his instincts told him to do. He pulled to her in a hug and let her sob against his chest. While it lasted he enjoyed the feeling of her against him, his arms holding her and the smell of her enveloping him.
“I am sorry,” she said once she was done and pulled back “I had a long day and I am in a lot of pain.”
He lowered his arms “you should go home.”
“No,” she shook her head “I have far too much stuff to do. I’ll just ask Lys to give me something for the pain. I will be okay tomorrow.”
“Ok,” he yielded “let me know when you are home. You have my number now. Just a text.”
She rolled her eyes at him.
“Please.” And before he knew it, his hand reached for the strand of hair and pulled behind her ear. He might have lingered a bit too long but she leaned into the touch and closed her eyes for a second.
Then they both jerked away from the contact.
“Sorry.” He stood “I should go, Lorcan is probably waiting for me.”
“Yeah… sure…” she felt a savage blush rise on her face.
Then he left.
Once he was out of the door, she grabbed her phone and texted Lysandra: girls meeting.
By the time she hobbled to the ambulance, she noticed that Lysandra, Elide and Ansel were already sitting in the back of the vehicle with their usual stash of chocolate biscuits.
She sat down and groaned in pain.
“You should go and get the leg checked. I am just a paramedic. If you injure yourself badly before the review the station will kill itself.” Commented Lysandra noticing the state of her friend.
“I will be fine.”
“Is this meeting about your hot captain friend?”
Aelin nodded.
Lysandra grabbed a biscuits “had sex yet? Is he good? He must be. He is probably a god in bed.”
“No,” shouted Aelin “and, do I need to remind you that you are in a committed relationship with Aedion?”
“I know. And I still love him. Nothing stops me from making the eyes wander and fantasise a bit.”
“Anyway, no to the first one and I have no idea about the second.”
“What’s stopping you?” Asked Ansel while picking the chocolate chips for her biscuits and eating them one at a time.
“The fact that I have known him for three days and that we spent the majority of them fighting?”
“Angry sex can be fun, and wild.” The woman grinned.
“The guy doesn’t even like me.” But her mind wondered back to the moment in her office, the hug and the hair.
“The important question is how do you feel about him?” Asked Elide.
Aelin sighed “I don’t know.” She finally grabbed a biscuit “he is hot. So, so hot.” Aelin took a bite and used the time for munching to think about how she felt “I really don’t know how I feel about him.” She looked away “but the main problem is that I don’t think I am ready. I can’t get involved again with another man. Especially not with another one who does a dangerous job. Losing Sam almost broke me. I can’t go through that a second time.”
“So you are never going to date anymore?” Asked Ansel.
“No, I will just date a guy with a very boring job. Like an accountant.”
“That is not a guarantee that you will have a happy relationship. What if you spend five years with the guy, then he cheats on you because he got bored and breaks your heart?”
Lysandra had a point, damn it.
“Have you tried to show him that you were interested?” This time it was Elide.
“No, I was too busy shouting at him.”
“Less shouting and more shagging, darling.” Was Ansel’s suggestion.
Lysandra and Elide chuckled and Aelin rolled her eyes.
“Also, if Aelin doesn’t act on it can I? I don’t have airforce Captain in my list.”
“No!” Shouted the other three women in unison.
“His squadron will come here for training, you can take your pick.”
From the little bit she had seen about Fenrys she had a feeling that he and Ansel would get along like a house on fire.
“Speaking of pilots,” Aelin turned to Elide “did you notice the man with Captain Whitethorn today?”
“Oh my gods yes. The tall dark haired hot as hell man? Hell yeah.”
Aelin laughed. She knew the man was Elide’s type.
“He is Whitethorn’s CO. His boss. He was here to discuss some things about our project. Anyway…”
“A bird told me that he noticed you as well.”
She saw Elide blush savagely.
“He is coming back when the squadron comes for training. We can set you up.”
“NO.” shouted Elide.
“Why?”
“You girls know my past. What happened in one of my foster families. Because of that I never had a boyfriend which means I never….”
The girls knew about her past. She had lost her parents when she was twelve. She was sent to foster care and eventually a family adopted her. However the family was not what she hoped. The father was abusive and violent toward his wife and eventually he turned his attention to her in the worst possible way. Because of that Elide had always struggled with men and never had a boyfriend.
“He is good looking but I don’t know anything about him. I can’t…”
Aelin hugged her friend “you don’t have to do anything that you don’t feel comfortable doing.”
Elide pulled back “I am thirty and I never had anything like what you had with Sam or what you have with Aedion and whatever Ansel does. I want to experience it so badly.”
“What if we help you?’ Suggested Lys.
“How?”
“I can investigate a bit more about Lorcan. I have an inside contact and if he is not worthy of you… well… we’ll find you a better candidate.”
Elide smiled.
“If he is worthy, and interested as Rowan affirmed, we can help you with what happens next.”
“We are going to be here for you.”
In that instant the dispatch alarm went off.
“Fuck it.” Said Ansel.
Both fire engine and ambulance were needed on the scene.
Aelin hobbled to Aedion “I am coming. I will not be inside. I will stay outside and direct the show. Just let me come.”
“As if I could stop you.”
When she struggled to get on the truck Aedion pushed her inside.
“Isn’t that the warehouse down at the river near the embankment?”
Aedion looked at the map “Shit. If the fire has spread to the embankment, that’s an area always full of people.”
“If the fire has spread we might have to call west station. They have two engines.” Added Ress.
“Speaking of which.” Continued Aedion “you are super buddy with Dorian, any chance we can get a budget boost to expand our station and get a second engine?”
“I have a meeting with him on Friday. He has been quite busy taking over his new job.”
They arrived at the scene five minutes later and it was far, far worse than expected.
The police had cordoned off a good part of the area, keeping people away.
Aelin got off the truck but almost ended on her knees when her left leg touched the ground. She hobbled behind Aedion. She called dispatch and asked to send west station to support them.
In the distance she spotted Chaol and joined him “what’s the situation?”
“Shouldn’t you be at home?”
“Chaol, what is the situation?”
“Alarm went off twenty minutes ago. Some witnesses reported an explosion and after that the fire had gotten worse. It seems out of control.” He continued “we had no idea if the warehouse was occupied. We evacuated the area and sent away all the passersby. We closed the embankment and the boats down the Florine have stopped for now.”
She patted him on the shoulder and walked away. Reached Aedion and recounted the situation to him “The explosion makes me think the worst. You are our explosive expert.”
Aedion nodded.
“Be safe, please.”
In that instant Aelin got a confirmation from dispatch that west Station was on its way with the two engines and another ambulance “Lieutenant, Captain, come in.”
“Aedion, go ahead.”
“Dispatch confirmed west is coming with two units. We got your back.”
“Copy that, captain.”
Then she turned to Lys and Elide “West is coming with an ambulance as well.”
All of a sudden an explosion rocked the sky and when Aelin lifted her eyes she discovered in horror that the fire had now spread to the attached warehouse.
“Fuck, fuck and fuck.”
They heard people screaming and running away from the building on fire.
“Chaol, I need crowd control,” she shouted to the policeman.
He nodded and took a few guys with him to help.
West arrived a few minutes later.
Thomas, the tall blonde captain of the station walked to her quickly “what are you doing outside?”
“Leg injury. I am directing the show.”
“This does not look pretty.”
Aelin shook her head “two explosions, two buildings involved.” She pointed at them “the second one went up just before you got here. Police is on crowd control and embankment is closed and empty.”
“Where do you want us?”
“Take one full team in the second building with you.” She ordered “then split the second team. Send some men in with my team and take the remaining with you. Have one engine with water on the second warehouse and send the other one here. The fire in this one if far worse.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Thomas, be safe.”
He winked at her and ran back to his teams to give instruction on how to proceed.
“Lieutenant, captain west is here. Backup should be in in a few minutes.”
“Copy that.”
“Any updates?”
The radio crackled for a moment “this is a warehouse for the river boats. There is wood everywhere and I can smell solvents.”
Aelin swore. Of course. They would paint and more to treat the boats.
“Aelin, Thomas.”
“Give me good news, please. It’s hell in here.”
“Be careful moving around. Chances your warehouse belongs to the embankment as well. Aedion smelled solvents.”
Aelin heard Thomas curse over the radio “exactly my feeling.”
Her phone in her pocket went off and when she saw it was Rowan she cursed. What did he want?
“Not now, captain. I am in the middle of something.” And she hang up.
With the corner of her eyes she noticed Lys, Elide and the other paramedics running to help some of the injured.
“Lys,” she called “do you need more units?”
“We don’t know yet.
“Aedion, captain,”
“Go ahead.”
“Tell the trucks to intensify the water. It’s an inferno in here. I found an entire room full of turpentine. This was a goner. But I definitely smelled it. I found another room — “ the conversation cut off and another explosion happened.
“Aedion come in.”
Silence over the radio.
“Aedion, anyone form east come in.”
Damn.
“Thomas, Captain.”
“I heard. We found two closed rooms but we did not opened them. It stinks of turpentine here as well. Evacuating now and trying to take as many civilians as possible with us.”
“Aedion come in, please.” Panic was starting to rise in her voice as well.
“East team report in.”
Thomas was at her side a moment later “The fire in the second building will be under control soon, but it looks like the first building is in pretty bad shape.”
“How long will it take for stations outside Orynth to send help?”
He heart sank when Thomas shook his head.
“Three trucks are not enough for this inferno.”
Then she had an idea. She grabbed her phone and called Rowan. He answered at the first ring.
“Whitethorn shut up and listen to me. I need a favour, a big one. I am down at the embankment. It’s an inferno down here. Three trucks are not enough. We need air support. I need to get you arse in action and find a way to give us enough helicopters to fly over us and dump water on the fires. And I need it yesterday.”
“Copy that.” A pause “are you safe?”
“Yeah.” She looked at the fire “don’t let me down.”
He hung up the phone and she hoped he could pull a trick to save them all.
“I am going in,” said Thomas “ I’ll take my team. We need to try.”
“Find them, please.”
He patted her shoulder and went to gather his men and went back inside.
The pain in her leg had reached unbearable levels and she felt as if she could pass out.
“Are you okay?” Asked Ren noticing her in pain.
“Don’t worry about me. Worry about the water.”
“Thomas, remember not to open any doors. You risk giving turpentine more oxygen.”
“We found some factory workers, Ansel is taking them out.”
“I’ll have EMTs ready.’
She was turning to go to Lysandra when she found herself face to face with reporters.
“Are you in charge? Can you give us an update?”
Aelin counted till ten to avoid punching the bastards “This is a restricted area, I need to ask you to move away.”
Luckily in that instant Chaol ran there and took the reporters away and pushed them behind the cordoned off area.
“Thanks.”
“This is terrifying.”
“Thanks for the support you guys.”
“I love pushing away reporters. Such a fun job. You do your magic. I will keep an eye on them.”
Ansel cam out in that instant, a man on her shoulder a woman holding onto her and two more following her “Lys, I need you here.”
“We need help.” Said the woman.
Aelin nodded and called dispatch straight away and asked for more ambulances.
“ETA 5 minutes.”
Her phone went off again. Dorian. Damn.
“Hi sexy.”
“I just saw on the news. I am on my way back. How the situation?”
Aelin sighed “bad, multiple explosion in two boat warehouses down at the embankment. There are injured workers. West is here as well and the police has blocked off the whole perimeter and is doing crowd control. I have the airforce on its way for help with aerial support, hopefully.”
“Keep me updated. I should be there in five.”
Once she closed the conversation she noticed the text from Rowan we are coming.
Gods she could kiss the man.
“Thomas, Captain.”
“Go ahead, Cap.”
“Hold on a bit longer. Aerial support is coming.”
“Best fucking news since this hell has started.”
Five minutes later she saw Dorian in the distance and started walking toward him but half way through her leg gave up and she collapsed on the ground. The man was at her side in an instant and helped her up.
“You are injured.”
“Not important,” she breathed through gritted teeth.
“How long has it been?” Asked Dorian staring at the inferno all around them.
“It’s been almost an hour.”
“We are now at risk of collapse, you know that?”
Aelin nodded.
“I need to do something.” And he ran to his car and grabbed his gear and started getting ready.
Aelin walked to him “Dorian, you can’t. You are the chief.”
“I am a firefighter first and foremost. My rank, just now has very little use. You are doing an amazing job out here. I am needed inside.”
She put a hand on his shoulder “Be careful. They have found large quantities of turpentine.”
“I’ll be okay.” And he kissed her head and then walked away.
She could not stare at him go inside the building as well. She and Dorian had an interesting history. When she was still a probie she had served under him when he was captain. He had fallen in love with her but she always considered him as a great friend. Then she moved to east station and she told him that she did not reciprocate the feelings. He was a wonderful man. But for her he had always been a friend.
Brullo and Ress came out bringing more people.
Brullo shook his head in silence and she knew he meant they hadn’t found Aedion yet.
In that instant a loud noise shook the sky and Aelin looked up and saw two massive planes fly above their heads. They were the types of planes used to fight fires from the air. She had seen them in action during some forest fires. One of them made a pass over the second building and dumped all the water extinguishing the fire. The second one flew over the first warehouse, but one pass was not enough. She saw the plane head for the river and scoop up more water.
“Thomas, Captain, do you hear the sound?”
“Yeah, what is that? The shockwaves are making the place vibrate.”
“That is the TAF. They are dumping water on the buildings. They are back coming for you. Hell should be over soon. Also, Dorian is on his way in.”
The conversation cut of as well and Aelin feared the worst.
With another three passes the fire was under control.
Aelin went to grab the hose from Luca and walked closer “Ren, follow me.”
They got closer to the building and started directing water inside the building and extinguish the last small fires still burning.
Aelin looked up as she heard the planes making another pass above their heads and smiled.
She owed Rowan a big one.
Aelin almost dropped the hose when she saw Dorian carrying out an injured Aedion.
“Lys,” shouted Aelin and when the woman noticed her man she ran to him and helped Dorian to carry him to the ambulance.
One of the guys from west station who was working in the second warehouse came to her and reported the fire completely extinguished and all civilians evacuated and safe. Aelin sighed in relief.
Ten minutes later the rest of her team, followed by Thomas and the remaining team west finally came out of the building and Aelin breathed again. Everyone was safe. Thomas came behind her and took the hose from her “I’ll have this. Go to your team.”
“Thank you,” she told him and limped heavily to her team and they hugged each other in relief.
Then they all went to the ambulance to check on Aedion. He was sitting on the gurney with an oxygen mask on his face.
“We are taking him to the hospital for checks. I will keep you posted.” Lysandra’s stare was on Aelin “you should come with us as well.”
“Just give me some painkillers and I will be fine.”
Lysandra was not convinced but handed her a tablet.
Aelin shut the door of the vehicle and pulled back.
Dorian was at her side a moment later “you and I should go and talk to the press.”
“Shouldn’t that be your job as chief? You love the attention.”
“Ah yes, but you know more details than me.”
Aelin growled “fine.”
It was almost an hour later when they finally managed to collect their stuff, tuck the equipment away and finally be on their way back to the station. The sun had started to set and Aelin thought she was ready for bed.
Lysandra texted her saying that they were keeping Aedion in for the night just as precaution, but that he was fine.”
“Lys says Aedion is fine. They are keeping him in tonight for precaution but he is okay. No serious injuries apart from bruises and cuts.”
Relief spread through the truck.
Once they arrived at the station they noticed the lights on and a few unknown cars parked at the front.
Aelin jumped off the truck and regretted it immediately. With extreme difficulty she dragged herself inside the station and then was speechless at what she saw.
Rowan’s squadron, Lorcan included, had prepared dinner for them.
Rowan saw her walking in and did not like what he saw. Her limp had worsened. He stared at her, happy to know that she was  alive. When he had heard on the news about the raging fire down at the river he had been terrified. It looked very bad from the video footage, but only by flying over it he had realised just how an impossible task they had.
She moved a step toward him and a second later she was in his arms as her leg gave up and she almost crashed on the floor.
“I got you.” He said to her while lifting her up in his arms and carrying her to the sofa.
In that instant the rest of the team entered the kitchen and screams of joy at the sight of the food erupted from all of them.
Rowan stood “we thought that we would prepare a nice meal for your return. It seemed like you would be needing it.”
“Thank you all,” said Aelin on behalf of her squad.
Everyone sat at the table and began to tuck in.
Elide glanced over at Lorcan and noticed that the man was staring at her as well. Quickly she looked away and went back to her food.
Rowan sat beside Aelin and brought her some food “I can get you more.”
Then he grabbed her injured leg and lifted it on the table. She winched the whole time he moved it.
Rowan moved to sit on the coffee table in front of them, placed her foot on his lap and proceeded to remove her boot. Then lifted her trouser’s leg and once the knee was exposed they both gasped. It was purple and visibly swollen “why are you walking on it?”
“I had no idea it was this bad.”
“You can barely walk, of course it’s bad,” he said annoyed.
“Are you fussing?”
“No, I am just making sure that you don’t do any more stupid things.”
“Can we please go to the hospital after I ate my dinner?”
“Fine.” He very gently placed her foot on the coffee table and stood. When he came back he had an icepack in his hands.
The main table was a bit of a distance and they had a bit of privacy.
He sat down again and put her foot again on his lap then placed the ice pack on her knee and Aelin swore. It hurt like hell. She threw her head against the back of the sofa and breathed in deeply.
“Thank you for tonight. My squad and west station are alive because of your help. I owe you one.”
“It was the least I could do.”
“How did you pull it off?”
“Lorcan. He has some well connected friends. Once I told what was happening, he started making phone calls and we got everything organised.”
She kept eating and noticed that his thumb was gently brushing her skin while his hand held the ice pack in place.
“Have you noticed that Lorcan and Elide keep looking at each other while the other is not looking?”
“I did. Is she interested?”
Aelin nodded “she is into him apparently but Elide is very shy. I need to be sure that he has no plan to use her for a fling only and let her go. For many reason that I can’t tell you. But if Lorcan behaves like a pig, he will have to deal with me, Lys and Ansel. You’d better pass the message along.”
“Will do.”
Once Aelin was done eating, Rowan took all the plates and took them to the dishwasher “Come on now, you and I are going to the hospital.”
He crouched and turned to offer her a piggyback ride but she scoffed “You are not carrying me.”
“Fine, then you walk to my car. Be my guest.”
Aelin groaned and pulled herself in a standing position but as she straightened the knee again, the pain brought her on the verge of tears.
Rowan went to the team and explained that he was dragging Aelin to the hospital and he got the team approval. By the time he had spoken with them, Aelin had barely made it past the sofa.
In one fell swoop he lifted her in his arms “I don’t care, now stop complaining.”
Aelin did not protest and leaned against his chest.
